Regular readers might recall my respect for veteran journalist Alan Nixon, whose track record in respect of football transfers can best be described as impeccable.
SPURS. Jack Clarke thing should happen from LEEDS this week. 8.5 plus extras up to around 13. Fair enough …
— Alan Nixon (@reluctantnicko) June 23, 2019
Leeds United appear to have agreed a deal with Tottenham for Jack Clarke.
Clarke should sign for somewhere in the region of £8.5million plus the usual business of add-ons taking the whole deal to around the £13million mark.
Leeds United fans have been whining on social media about the quoted terms, but the truth is, fans like this need a reality check. Perhaps if their club could get its act together and make the top flight, Leeds the one club city could have some muscles to flex.
Clarke’s arrival is welcome, but doesn’t warrant excitement, the lad is barely shaving and has what, half a professional season to his CV?
i can only think that the worst winterweatheris in February rather than January.
I agree that there will be no real break for the players though.
The weathers still shit now. Ha! I spose any break is a winter break here.
Who are the season tickets paying a fortune to see next season?

Yes after Xmas is when we usually get the coldest weather with snow in the UK, Jan-Feb time.
On VAR I think it can work given time and practise. Nobody likes losing a game, or at the extreme being knocked out of a prestigious competition like the world cup by a cheat line Henry did to the Rep of Ireland. For example if VAR had been around the dreaded “hand of God” by Maradona would never have been allowed to happen. That’s got to be a good thing in my book. It’s worked pretty well in this world cup I think, I don’t mind waiting a few minutes because at least you know justice will be done, besides you get the extra play tacked on at the end, and who cares if the game time over-runs by 10 minutes or so? Some pretty poor referee/linesman decisions have been over-ruled and that’s got to make them think about doing a better job too.
Just seen this clarks stats. It doesn’t look great. However as long as that bastard can drag a deal out for a whole summer with a shit club for one of their subs. Why can’t we get him on a Malaysian flight anywhere…
Finn June 24, 2019 at 11:49 pm
I have watched Rugby avidly for years, and Cricket/tennis now and again, all 3 have VAR of sorts and not one has used it for ad time (maybe it has a small ad in the corner, like a sponsor) and all 3 sports use it very well. Issue is football doesn’t. The technology is great if used well, however football refs use it as an excuse to not make a decision opposed to use it to support a decision, Rugby barely use it unless they have to.
Seems Torreira has demanded a move to Milan. Looks like the long term future of Arsenal’s midfield is already its past.
Thing about the English break, the foreign leagues have Christmas off. They always have. The prem break is in February which is barely winter. Its traditional to have Xmas football here so they’ve crowbarred it in then strangely. Watch what happens.
They play plenty of friendlys though. No break at all. The Premier league is going to be different. I have seen the Bayern’s and Milan’s etc play exhibitions in winter breaks too.
Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 25, 2019 at 9:49 am
NONE of the European leagues that have a winter break use it for this.
Tell you what lads, I’ve just come across a video compilation on YouTube of Clarke, and a replacement for ncluedo is about right. I can’t see how he could help the situation as it is, maybe in the future, but for now no. I don’t blame the lad at all, and I sincerely hope he has a great time and develops into a top footballer, but Daniel Daniel. What about the here and now Daniel. Chance to kick the goons the rent boys and utd. Cement a place in the big cash for years to come. But you k ow best eh
THIS!
Also this winter break bollox is about money for the elite teams too. They will be off in their “break” on promo jaunts to Asia and America etc….
Football is finished. Bloated corpse.
We are signing an 18 year old Championship player who may well, under Poch and his staff’s guidance be a regular in the Spurs team in four season’s time…
SO FUCKING WHAT?
VAR is about advertising!!!!!! Nothing else.
The amount of money pouring into the game has to come from somewhere – it comes from the media and TV companies. They make the money from advertising and VAR will allow prime time slots for ads.
Refs will be pressured to consult VAR – those who don’t will find their lives get more difficult, like being overlooked for high profile games. If they want a career as a ref they’ll have to tow the line.
VAR has NOTHING – repeat – NOTHING to do with improving the game; that’s the rationale provided to be swallowed by the gullible who somehow believe that their team is plagued by poor refereeing decisions and no other groups of supporters feel the same.
This is the thin edge of the wedge: the football authorities are about making money and businesses are poised to exploit the game and will ruin it both as a spectacle and a competition. If you think ENIC is bad just keep watching to see how bad it can get!
This is great news. It is vitally important that we get a replacement in for George noKando
Don’t get too excited as he’s being loaned back to Leeds…
Yes, in the 90’s we were shit placing wise but at least it was fun, like Billy says, Klinsmann Teddy Anderton Dominguez Barmby popescu Berti, lots of entertainment and names coming in …things for the fans. The ones who pay to watch.
From forums I’ve seen re: this today Leeds fans really don’t give a flying …..
Yet another body that won’t ever fill the shirt….. Levy at his finest
What about striker cover for Kane? I believe Llorente is being released and as we all know Kane gets crocked very easily these days. When Levy has stopped pissing about replacing the players from our so called wonder academy, yes it’s that good folks that he has to buy everyone else’s kids, how about coming to terms with the problems right now that need dealing with? Seasons getting closer by the day, we’ve got masses of holes in our squad and Levy is prattling about buying kids for the future. Imbecile. Never has a club been so mismanaged than by this arsehole. Great managers like Redknapp and Pochettino but no trophies in the bank. Saysit all really.
So we have a kid from Leeds. Linked with a freebie from West brom. Now a Danish u21 for 15m. I do hope people can see that this has turned into arsenal at an alarming pace. Just remind me again Daniel, the point of building this stadium was to compete at the top yeah… Funny. Even in the dark days of the 90s we got Klinsmann, ginola. To say this is a piss take doesn’t do it justice. Scumbag, that’s all that man is, with a stadium we pay the debt off and enic take the cash.
Rafa to leave Newcastle – apparently his chairman promised lots and didn’t deliver…sound familiar?
Yes, smaller squads then. To many foreign players now and money rules. Back then was the golden age.
Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 24, 2019 at 3:33 pm
I think the issue is the top players and top clubs are pulling away. Back then players wanted to play, and the money that each club pay was relatively even. You didn’t get internationals sitting on a bench at a top club opposed to playing mid table. Now you get world class players happy to play 30-60% of minutes allowing some teams to have top benches compared to lower teams be lucky to have a decent starting 11.
Jack Clarke will hardly take us to the next level will he? I believe he’s to be loaned back to Leeds anyway, Like Fulham’s Moussa Dembele was supposed to be – only Levy fouled that one up too by pulling out didn’t he? And the lad went on to become worth about £50m in 2 years, we were paying something daft like £6m. Moron Levy strikes again.
We’re becoming another arsenal, big flashy stadium but we consider top 4 as a trophy. Pretty soon we’ll be back in the Europa League, which we can’t win either because Levy is to tight to build a decent squad. We can’t win fuck all unless Levy builds a squad able to compete on more than one front, all Levy is building is his own bank balance at our expense.
Watching some highlights from 90/91 season, its really noticeable how the competitiveness of the top division has diminished. So many strong teams then, Leeds were a terrific side, Forest had a great side, Liverpool were brilliant, Arsenal strong, Villa had a strong side, Man Utd were starting to motor. We had our Italy 90 stars…Even Norwich and smaller sides were decent. So different now, the elite sides have devoured the rest.
Sounds like that 82nd min Carabao sub role is close to being refreshed. One of the longstanding priorities finally looks like it’s going to be ticked off.
VAR is inanimate. Its because people are involved that it fails. Football is a sport with ambiguity to it so there’s no real way you can say ‘its not VAR its how its applyed’ cos those problems will always remain. The flow will always be ruined, the second guessing, the drama….its the human element that makes the sport what it is , then you introduce a technological aspect and its always the human element that will make it fail. It doesn’t work in this sport. Its not supposed to be that way.
Leave the sport alone. (Someone just said exactly that as a typed this. Spooky)
The Daniel Levy Summer Show on the road again! Jack Clarke not much to get excited about. I believe Poch will be gone by this time next year if Levy doesn’t get his act together in the next few weeks.
As for VAR and the rules of the game etc., next season promises to be highly comical and absolutely ludicrous with no more accidental hand balls; players will on occasion when the chance of scoring is none too bright be blasting the ball at the hands of opposing players to win a penalty.
Yep, absolutely 100 agree. Disgrace what went on yesterday in the England Womans game. All it needs is a weak ref and the match will descend into VAR chaos. 15 minutes overall injury time, it will end up like the National Hockey League in the US/Canada, where 3 20 minute periods end up lasting 3 hours because of all the stoppages. Also, bringing in young players with potential is great, as long as players are also bought in who can walk straight into the 1st team and make a difference. waiting for Levy to do something is like Chinese water Torture !!
Is Gascoigne gonna have a crack? June 24, 2019 at 10:47 am
VAR wont ruin the game, abuse of it like in the womens world cup will. It got all the decisions right in the England game, but ruined the flow. The farce of it all was in the last 30seconds of injury time, Cameroon losing 3-0 the England captain gets stamped on. the ref then took 5mins to decide a clear red was actually a yellow…even if had been a red, no one would have gained anything and ALL the Cameroon players were going home anyway. Even a dumb ref should have seen that. Basically its being used so ref’s don’t need to make a decision. It needs to be used in the back ground only to reverse clear and obvious mistakes.
The b team need him. Bloody rubbish team. Lucky to have stayed up. spoke with Lammy yesterday. He’s so good at not answering questions. Tosser. He Spoke well regarding wind rush and how awful some of the old brothers were treated recently. Compensation? Doubt it.
I suspect that this press rumour will happen unlike the others leaked into the media by the club’s representatives. Ceballos and Chiesa have both looked very good in the under 21 Euros. One can but dream.
Confirmation ENIC FCS youth system is a myth. Nobody seems to care Luke Amos has been missing for nearly a year. Milk carton campaign failed….
6 weeks till start of the season and the pundits who were saying VAR is needed are now panicking, screaming… ” its a farce!!….its going to ruin the game!?”
Again this was all clear from day 1. People are a bit dull in the mind. Nobody listens to the have a crack.
He’s also being sent back to Leeds for the 19/20 season anyway, isn’t he? Really nothing to get excited about.
I see this lad/news as nothing better than an academy signing, add to it, rumour is we loaning him back for a year, this CLEARLY one for the future.
I wonder, since the start of football transfers, whats the longest any professional team has ever gone without buying someone to improve their first team squad? I think we must be on some sort of top tier record, if not on a complete footballing record.
