Ajax host Tottenham Hotspur in European Champions League on Wednesday 8th May, 8:00pm at Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax have won 50%, drawn 25% and lost 25% of their last 20 home European games.

Ajax have scored in 85% of their last 20 home European games. Ajax have kept a clean sheet in 8 of their last 20 home European games, going on to win 7 and draw 1 of these matches.

Spurs have won 28%, drawn 39% and lost 33% of their last 18 away European games.

Spurs have scored in 89% of their last 18 away European games. Spurs have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 18 away European games, going on to win 4 and draw 1 of these matches.

Our friends at Kick Off have summed up how this game is likely to pan out and so Poch’s mission is not just to level that away goal, but ensure he puts a lid on any more being scored by tonight’s opponents.

The form guide heavily suggests that Ajax are almost incapable of shutting Spurs out tonight. This is a team that likes to play.

Theoretically, this could have been a high scoring affair – I just can’t see where all our ‘goals’ would come from.

It’s a pity we’re neither in the best form or the best health for this game tonight, because if we were, I believe this tie would be recoverable. We have to bear in mind that the Dutch side – under the radar – hit back for unexpected victories against Real Madrid and Juventus after drawing at home (actually, I rather fancied they might win at Juve; wished I’d had a wager!) and this time there is much greater expectation on them in the second leg. Son, too, may be especially fired up and keen to make amends for his dismissal on Saturday.

If I was to place a quid on a win, somehow Levy would get 2 quid back. Nah
