Agent of Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg appeared to take a dig at Spurs during a recent interview, where he spoke about his agent seeking a move to an ambitious club.
The Danish international is in hunt for more regular playing time following his exclusion from Ange Postecoglou’s plans last season.
He fell down the pecking order under the Australian, with his role reduced to that of a squad player. Despite being a regular feature in the team, the majority of appearances came as a substitute.
Luca Puccinelli of Unique Sports Group Italy, who started representing Hojbjerg earlier this year, has made some fresh comments suggesting that the player is eyeing a future away from Spurs.
Puccinelli emphasised the defensive midfielder’s desire for a more ambitious project, hinting at the midfielder’s dissatisfaction with Tottenham’s lack of silverware.
Puccinelli lauded Hojbjerg’s achievements, highlighting his successful periods under renowned managers like Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte in North London, and his leadership in the Danish national team.
However, he made it clear that Hojbjerg aspires to join a club where he can compete for significant trophies, appearing to take a dig at Tottenham.
Puccinelli stated (as quoted by Fabrizio Romano):
“This year I started working with Pierre and it was a great satisfaction for me to be able to convince a top player for the project I had for him. Pierre has already experienced a lot in his career, he has had great seasons at Tottenham with top coaches like Mourinho and then Conte last year. In the national team he is a big leader as well”, says Luca Puccinelli from Unique Sports Group Italy.
“A player like him will surely be part of a club with great ambition or project because he is not just a strong player, but with a character made to fight for important things every year. Pierre feel comfortable in the pressure to win, and I am working in this sense.
“He is telling me that every year he dreams of trophies in the end of the season and don’t like to play for nothing. This is his mindset, this is the mission.”
Hojbjerg, now in the final year of his contract with no extension in sight, faces an uncertain future at Tottenham.
The Danish midfielder’s new agent has strong connections in Serie A, suggests a possible move to Italy.
Clubs such as AC Milan and Napoli are reportedly interested, along with Spanish side Atletico Madrid, who are closely monitoring his situation as well.
While proposals are already being considered, Puccinelli mentioned that decisions regarding Hojbjerg’s future will be made after the ongoing Euros.
Tottenham, on the other hand, will aim to secure a decent transfer fee for Hojbjerg to reinvest in strengthening other positions within the squad.
