Agent confirms Tottenham wanted huge talent but his heart was set on Italian giants

By Bruce Grove -

The agent of Victor Osimhen has revealed that Tottenham did indeed want to sign the striker before his big-money move to Italy.

Osimhen was one of the most sought-after players in this transfer window after his fine debut season in France with Lille.

The young Nigerian became a target for Spurs as they searched for a backup striker to Harry Kane.

They pursued a move for him alongside other top European sides like Barcelona, but he already had his head turned by Napoli.

He completed his move to the Italian side late last month for a record fee and his Italian representative, Roberto Calenda has come out to explain that Spurs and Liverpool were genuinely interested in making a move for him.

“I say that we are talking about a player of undisputed talent, so much so that since the early years of his career many teams have always been interested in him,” Calenda told Radio Marte.

“Then came Napoli who followed the player for a long time. Did the director of football take responsibility for the operation? All I know is that Napoli have been strong on the boy from the start, the negotiations started in January, for many months.

“Osimhen was an obsession of Giuntoli, Napoli and their President. Napoli did everything to get him: the negotiation was exhausting. I can say that it was a well-conducted negotiation by the parties, which began long ago.

“[It was a] difficult operation, Tottenham and Liverpool wanted Osimhen until the end, even Barcelona initially wanted him to replace Suarez. But Napoli did everything, they wanted him and took him.”

Osimhen isn’t the only player that Spurs has targeted to become their new backup striker.

They are still in the hunt for Callum Wilson, but other teams want the Englishman too and Spurs will need to speed up their efforts to land him (TalkSport)

Talk is cheap. Yes we probably were interested until Levy found out the price.
