“A no-brainer” – Tottenham urged to make £15m star their first signing of the summer

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes Tottenham should sign Timo Werner on a permanent deal.

Spurs successfully secured the loan services of Timo Werner in January until the end of the season.

The agreement, reached with RB Leipzig, includes an option for Spurs to make the move permanent in the summer transfer window.

Since returning to the Premier League, this time with Tottenham, Werner has made a notable impact, contributing 2 goals and 2 assists in just 7 league appearances, amassing 422 minutes on the pitch, as per Transfermarkt.

With his recent form, which includes scoring in the last two league fixtures for Spurs, there’s growing speculation about the possibility of Tottenham opting to secure Werner’s services permanently.

Dean Jones, a respected transfer correspondent, believes that retaining Werner should be an obvious decision for Tottenham, particularly considering the relatively low transfer fee of £15 million.

He emphasised Werner’s quality and experience, highlighting his potential contributions, especially if Spurs secure Champions League qualification.

He further emphasised Werner’s value in providing depth and experience, crucial for a team competing domestically and in Europe.

Jones told GiveMeSport:

“It’s hard to see any other decision other than for Werner to remain at Spurs after this season. His option is £15m, and that’s a steal when you consider the quality and experience he can bring to the squad. If Spurs qualify for the Champions League, they will need a few heads in that team who know what it takes to manage games and situations.”

“Werner has played over 40 games at that level. When you think that Spurs will need to balance out the squad more next season by playing domestically and in Europe and that you can have a player like this for just £15m, it feels like a no-brainer.”

It’s reported that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou played a significant role in securing Werner’s loan deal, indicating the club’s keen interest in retaining the German international beyond the current season.
