Tottenham faced an early setback today with one of their newest arrivals, Lucas Bergvall, sustaining an injury during a pre-season friendly against QPR.
Bergvall, who recently joined Spurs on a five-year deal for a reported transfer fee of £8.5 million from Djurgarden, had to leave the pitch after just 24 minutes.
As reported by Football London, the midfielder’s early exit saw Dejan Kulusevski step in, who later assisted Yves Bissouma for Tottenham’s opening goal.
Bergvall had shown promising signs in his first appearance for the Lilywhites. Earlier this week, he made his debut as a half-time substitute in a 5-1 victory over Hearts in a pre-season friendly, where he assisted Mikey Moore for Spurs’ third goal.
Bergvall’s versatility and creativity were expected to add depth and options to Tottenham’s midfield.
The 18-year-old came off after a brilliant campaign with Djurgarden last season, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists in his 19 appearances.
After the game, Ange commented on his injury, claiming that it was just soreness.
He said (via Football London):
“He was just a bit sore. I don’t think it’s anything significant.”
Fans will be relieved to hear that it nothing serious.
The club’s medical team will be expected to conduct further evaluation on him.
Whether he is fit enough to start their next game or not remains to be seen.
