Tottenham captain, Harry Kane, has been at the center of transfer speculation for months, with his contract set to expire in the near future.
The English striker has been linked with major European clubs such as Bayern Munich and Manchester United, with the Bundesliga club publicly stating their desire to sign him as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski who left the club for Barcelona in the summer.
However, recent reports suggest that Kane wishes to remain at Tottenham and win more trophies with the club.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Kane still wants to win trophies with Tottenham and that there will be talks between his agent, Charlie, and the club in the coming weeks to discuss a new contract. This is welcome news for Tottenham fans who have been worried about the striker’s future.
He said on the House of Champions YouTube channel (via Football Fan Cast):
“I’m told that he still wants to win Tottenham. He still wants to win [at] Tottenham. He’s still fighting for Tottenham and there will be conversations in the next weeks between his brother the agent of Harry Kane, Charlie, and Tottenham to discuss about the new contract.”
It was previously reported that Kane is holding off on signing a new contract until Antonio Conte signs an extension too as the striker has been happy playing under him. It was said that the player is ‘monitoring’ the Italian’s contract situation.
However, after Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester City, Kane hinted at a possible new contract, indicating that he will be staying at the club for the long term.
He said:
“When I started playing regularly, it wasn’t even in my imagination to score 200 Premier League goals. To be there now is exciting and I’ve got plenty of years left, so there will be a few more to come.”
In the match against City, Kane made history by scoring his 267th goal for Tottenham, surpassing the legendary Jimmy Reaves to become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer.
This only solidifies Kane’s status as one of the best strikers in the world and the reason why big clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United are eager to sign him.
