Djed Spence isn’t the only Tottenham player who hasn’t heard from Antonio Conte, as summer signing Destiny Udogie claims he hasn’t even spoken to his new boss.
Destiny Udogie joined Tottenham Hotspur during the 2022 summer transfer window. The Premier League club, alarmed by the inefficiency of their wing-back department, decided to reassign Udogie to Udinese on loan.
However, Udogie admitted to La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) in an interview that he has not yet spoken with Tottenham manager Antonio Conte since joining the London club, with Conte giving another newcomer a cold reception. He said:
“Serie A helps you grow. The months I have left here on loan at Udine will be important to improve further. With my focus, I’m here now. I still haven’t heard from Antonio Conte. The Premier League, however, doesn’t scare me. The game is fantastic, and I’ve always spoken English at home with my parents, who were born in Nigeria.”
Udogie’s situation isn’t as dire as Spence’s because he hasn’t yet played for the Spurs. He doesn’t have to talk to Conte until he moves to England next summer. But, regardless, Conte’s failure to greet him isn’t a good sign. Most managers would contact their new signings and wish them luck at their loan club for the season.

Fair comment!
Other than being a liar, a thief and a coward, he’s fine. But also at fault here is the THST, which is worthless at best.
Sounds like what a socialist bureaucrat would do
I suspect neither of these signings were of Conte’s choosing. The transfer window started with some activity to give the impression things behind the scenes were finally changing. All flim flam to boost season ticket sales.Perisic and Forster on a free then Bissouma for around £25 million.Hardly draw dropping moves. Then the Levy / ENIC spin with the so called “ war chest” then after the deadline passes for ticket sales it all goes very quite. Suddenly Levy is once again involved in transfers dragging the Spence deal over several weeks. Conte said it was a purchase by the club for the future – meaning a Levy punt along with Destiny. Conte is only interested in players who can immediately make a contribution to the first team squad. On that basis he has not been backed as the club are competing in 4 competitions and we have a squad only able to play one match a week. Levy and ENIC sat doing nothing at the end of the summer window whilst Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd added players. Our only hope in retaining Conte is if we are still hanging onto the top tier by January and we go and get the players we needed in the summer a rwb a cb a atm and another striker.
I feel this is the tipping point of the season – things are about to go either go up or down from this very middling point so far.
The Arsenal result calls for a response, we’ll find out. I do think Conte is a slow burn type, anyone I talk to non-Spurs is always saying “he’ll get going in the run in again”.
The thing is, he has to be on board for that period of the season, if he has half an eye on the exit then game over.
I never understand the cynicism around Conte and his contract with Spurs .
He is our Boss and while things might have gone better he has yet to make a serious mistake . He also is a fearless manager from what we know , if , always the big IF , he is given carte blanche to operate then we are in good hands .
Of course he is under the Levy control to a degree but this is a man [ Conte] with I believe great integrity , who would not signed for us without being given greater power than any who had gone before .
Despite current results unspectacular — so far , so good .
Have Faith – he is the man. C O Y S
He does know about making money for himself and his godfather though. Having gone 100% over budget on the stadium costs, and let’s not forget he micromanaged the project personally which was also a year late in discovery, he then awarded himself a £2 million bonus. Nice reward for failure methinks.
Yeah, it’s like buying a spec property and then flipping it before developing. Although I’m not sure Levy even knows much about property development either given his ineptitude in running a football club.
Probably a nice profit for Levy if he continues to improve and becomes a wanted man.
What’s the likelihood of either of these cats being here next season? If Conte says arrivederci then it’s likely Paratici’s right behind him, so what’s Destiny’s connection to Spurs?
So true it hurts
Conte won’t be his manager at Spurs, so what’s the point?
