One of the transfers that came out of nowhere and didn’t take long to complete was Tottenham Hotspur acquiring Emerson Royal from FC Barcelona. The Premier League side paid a based-fee of €25-million for the 22-year-old.
However, with interest from Tottenham coming with only hours left in the summer window, the deal was complex despite both sides eventually reaching an agreement.
In an interview with Tuttomercatoweb, agent Andrea Pellegatti, who worked on the deal between Tottenham and Barcelona for Emerson as a mediator, explained how difficult it was to get done, considering the money involved and only hours before the deadline would hit.
“At the brokerage level, that of Emerson Royal to Tottenham from Barcelona,” Pellegatti said. “Both for the timing and the figures on the table between the companies and then it closed on 31 August.”
Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici added another pillar to the revamped backline as Tottenham wanted another player to go alongside Cristian Romero.
The club chief had to reshape the defense atop of his list to do this summer, and the north London-based club has begun its makeover even though one deal was challenging to get done.

Emersons high percentages were in tackles won, aerial duels won and interceptions won…. So he was better than most la liga defenders.. Hes tall and strong for a right back… He has a confidence about him I like. Hopefully he can kick on and do well.
He started off as a striker.. But for Betis he wasn’t offensive at all. Sat deep as a right back, often stepping in as the third centre back. He often did the lions share of defending there… His passing and crossing and general playmaking was sub par, hence all his decent la liga stats are his defensive ones.
What I don’t understand is how his fee went up nearly 300% in three months and Levy the master negotiator was convinced to pay up.He would seem he had done nothing in that time to warrent such a high fee.
His stats are not exactly amazing and he’s prone to getting booked. On the plus side he’s very offensive minded so in theory with Reggy the other side we could emulate Walker and Rose glory days. However his crossing needs to improve.
Every deal that involves Levy is complicated as the clown tries so hard to save every penny any way remotely possible. I think he’s a fan of Del boy because he’s nothing but a market trader.
I don’t believe Paratici has any real power at Spurs, he’s just Levy’s puppet. It’s always been like that and always will be.
Spurs have bought so many average players that – guess what?
Waiting for the line ‘ he needs a pre season’ to be wheeled out
To many irons in the fire?
He cost Barca 8m in June, we paid about 21m which is peanuts these days. Barca are not the Barca of a few years ago either, so how good is he?
But we could have signed Tomi weeks before Royal
