Ryan Mason asked if the desire was there – his answer is interesting

According to Rayn Mason, Spurs are probably the fittest team in the Premier League. Which is a bold claim for those of us who watched the game. For many months we were told that Dele Alli and Gareth Bale were our two best players, being cruelly denied starting roles because of a demented dinosaur.

The reality was that Tottenham did not start brightly, after about 12-minutes, Leeds had lost possession 11 times and Spurs 21. As for Bale and Alli, both boys were running on fumes for the minutes they did manage in the second half, and in truth ought to have been substituted at half-time.

Leeds United looked as if they could have gone on for at least another half an hour, perhaps even scored a fourth time. Dele Alli was not injured and obviously hadn’t bothered to keep fit. Bale has hit a point when he can only play effectively for prolonged periods – against lesser opposition.

All this from Mason does make me wonder who he believes his audience to be. And this is the same poor chap who wheeled out the line about a world-class stadium and amazing training facilities last week.

The jig is up Ryan, and in all sincerity, if you’re planning a prolonged career in this business, journalists and fans appreciate people who are straight with them.

I don’t think the others wanted it which tells you everything about them, so credit to Ryan for that alone. These players had a wind machine thrown at them never mind a hairdryer , Mourinho loves the sound of his own voice. Managers are fully aware that the problem at this club is Levy, that is probably the stumbling block, also they could be without Kane to manage should he move on.

Sadly your post is all too accurate. Our most important remaining game of the season, a genuine ‘must win’ and we were comprehensively out run and out fought by a team with nothing to play for. Apart from Hugo’s heroics it could have been six. This team needs a total culture change and Mason is not going to deliver it. Our fitness levels, energy, pride in performance, team spirit and will to win were all lacking.

No way. Nothing to do with sympathy. He was wanted back to work with the young players. He’s thought of highly here.

I have been saying for some time now that we have nowhere near the levels of fitness that we had under Poch. I also remember that was one of the criticisms levelled at Mourinho after he was sacked by United. His United side were close to the bottom of the league in term of fitness as measured by ground covered as a team. Mason is delusional if he thinks we are the fittest team in the EPL. Leeds were definitely fitter than us and worked harder as a team.

I agree H, Bale, Alli and several others looked ‘leggy’, even before half time. There was little chasing back and ultimately none on the third goal, with the whole defence brutally exposed. Only Hojberg seems to have the requisite level of fitness in midfield. I love Ndomby, but he must be the only player who manages to look knackered coming off the sub’s bench! Mason may be working on the squad’s fitness, but on the evidence of yesterday we are nowhere near the levels required.

Ryan Powell Burnett doing very well with the unders and PL2 team
I wanted Wayne Burnett gone but he’s coming good. He was manager at Leyton with Haringey borough FC manager tom. Ledley king was there then. Tom jokes saying he’s the reason ledley turned out so brilliant🌚
Ledley used to come watch the borough sometimes with Antony gardner. Never play poker with Antony Gardner. (Professional

Chris Powell too. They’re all working as a team anyway. Final say Ryan.

  1. Bale actually looked annoyed about coming off, so obviously Ryan didn’t check if it was ok with him first, naughty boy
  2. Ryan is clearly incapable and unwilling to deliver the hairdryer
  3. Some other more senior individuals should be hanging their heads in shame that they didn’t step up – Ledley, senior player, ex-captain, legend, Hugo, Player Manager, world cup winner, clearly respected, even Joe Hart, vocal, won everything domestically, presumably doing his badges – why have these people been overlooked for a 29 year old noob?

Again, not blaming the lad, he’s the lottery winner who couldn’t say no, but the fact that the offer even got as far as him is an absolute joke IMO

Captain Dane s is a confident young man. He probably thinks he’s better than Kane already. He’d handle it no problem. Old head on young shoulders. Were he at Dortmunds academy he’d be getting starts already

Ruin a good kid by giving him a first team start? Captain Danes ready. He’d love it. Chuck him in. His inner core is 100% ready

I just get the impression that Ryan might be an excellent coach of younger players but he’s too honest and lacks the ruthless streak needed to be a successful manager.

Absolutely agree. I am quite sure there are several people on here who believe they could walk in the Spurs dressing room and do a better job than Mason and before him Jose and before him Poch.
I would have thought it must be one of the most difficult jobs in the world dealing with massively overpaid players on long contracts, in many cases with limited intelligence and large egos.

I agree, throwing in the kids is very tempting when the senior players aren’t doing it but it could be actually counterproductive and even damaging to some of them. Needs to be handled carefully, besides show me any team that has thrown a load of 17-18 year olds in at the top level where it’s worked?

Thinking about it, I don’t think we look fit or sharp. Poch might have been questioned about his double sessions but Bielsa does exactly the same high intensity training. Whatever has been going on with our training this season is anyone’s guess but we look weak and sloppy compared to a team like Leeds.

Mason must get the job. He is PERFECT for ENIC fc and Levys nonsense. The early retirement ex player sympathy cushions vitriol another would get at some stage. Another PR tactic from the owners.

I don’t envy Mase , the position he finds himself in is a difficult one, I’d be interested to see how others would handle things in his situation, he’s there to be shot at by the vultures of the media and even on here.

Strangely though, Leeds were run off the pitch against Brighton last week, when Leeds looked like they were on holiday.

The phrase about world class facilities and training pitches was also used by Jose on his unveiling and in some form covered I am sure by Pochettino over the course of his tenure. Its a perfectly harmless statement and I don’t understand why it should be used to in some way to demean him.
He’s been thrown by Levy a curve ball and into the full glare of the media spotlight, for which he deserves a bit of slack and support from those around him. Levy might have felt throwing a novice to the wolves would deflect criticism of him, however the press do seem to be turning on our Daniel,at long last, for the teams decline
Whilst he, Mason, was not blameless for yesterday’s performance I would have hoped that the team in many cases ex playing colleagues and friends, would have put in a more determined show of support for him on the pitch. That sadly did not occur.

You can’t tow the company line and be honest with the media. It’s not possible.Nice enough lad,but has be put in an unenviable position by Levy, perhaps with the promise of continued employment with the academy. Why would he jeopardise that?

Incidentally I don’t see Conti coming to us.If he fell out with Abramovic, who does give his managers money to spend,he wouldn’t last five minutes under Levy. His harsh training methods would have most of the players crying into their iphones. They ‘ve got used to slacking.

He was still going on about the offside decision! Theres 89 other minutes where you can rectify that. Hopeless.. He was talking like it was a cagey affair, but it was open and they ran through us. If it wasn’t for Hugo then it would have been more… Kane has been awful for two games now. This is worrying, he’s never let speculation affect him in the past.. Scoreline flattered us. Bale is done, Dele is done, they can’t be relied on clearly.. Our players lack of in game management is shockingly bad. Not a unit, not hunting in packs. No aggression. No will to win. No pride.
