Japhet is a player I’ve been supportive of since he first emerged around the first team, no backstory beyond the boy coming from good stock, and looking to be every inch the genuine article.
I remain convinced that there still exist limited thinkers in the fanbase, and so I make no apology for throwing them this tasty treat to consider. If José Mourinho is such a bad coach, then how does Japhet Tanganga get to shine? The reality is that Japhet is fresh meat. Should he not progress sufficiently in the next couple of years, he MUST get out, if he wants a successful career. Opposed to a career like Harry Winks’ or Eric Dier’s…
Against Manchester City, under appalling conditions, the 21-year-old Japhet Tanganga put in a remarkably solid performance. Best actions, you say? Well, here we go!
Attacking wing-back? Yup, that’s no problem. That was a tipperty-top cross.
Interception? There were 4 in total.

All of them were CDMs… Botch often played Dier and Wanyama together one season I remember.
Loved the Moose. He was a winger until 2011! … Dembeles role with us was a CDM. He would sit deep in front of our defence and break up play. He was on fifa for years as a CDM… But he was so good on the ball he could morph into a box to box like you say… His transition from defence to attack was priceless. He never gave the ball away, could run past people and pass accordingly… He was never close to being an attacking midfielder because he couldn’t score for love or money.
Can’t reply on other thread.. I don’t make excuses for the owners, nor do I have a screw lose, nor do I know what locktite is! You fucking idiot, try laying off whatever stuff you’re on if I was you….. And this is Botchs team we have right now, with only a handful of Maureens players.. Did you expect him to come in and tell half the squad they are not good enough? What would that achieve? Dumbo.. Maureen has said we are not good enough to win the league and referred to klopp and said it took four years…….. And you calling me ‘pance’ and players in my club ‘pance’ sums you up… I thought you were calling us pansys!… You meant ‘rubbish’ though…. Its spelt PANTS, not pance.. Dummy
If the personnel are in their twilight years, I think any coach would be in trouble.
Our backline is a good example. Walker leaves, Rose plays up, Verts and Toby get old. We buy Sanchez.
You don’t need to drag JM into this…
So when Poch was picking two from Dier, Dembele and Wanyama, which one was our CDM?
I agree there. We have struggled with certain people out. However, to say we have a worse squad than all above us is an outright lie. Even with those injuries we should still be playing better. Not blaming Jose 100%, but I feel he has a game plan, and way he prefers to play, and not willing to change to account for personelle.
Hmmm. Yes it’s a perfect cover at the moment for wonkyness. The no crowd line etc…
Funny you mention the Swansea game – if I remember it well they played 11 behind the ball. At a time in that game all 11 were in their own box. All Spurs fans hated it, called it anti football…now we expected to watch it every week.
Far too many fights with very few people organizing them…
Reguilon and Lo Celso out have hurt us, Bale has handicapped us for a season.
he was not a DMF – he was a central, box to box player. Holjberg is a lot more a screen player, breaks up play, moves the ball. He is very good at moving it forwards, not just a sideways pass, but you would not expect to see him in the final third too much – and would really not expect him to carry the ball and burst past players. His job is to hold back. Poch tried Dier there for a bit, and we had a great year.
Dembele = junk?
So Spurs best player so far this season is a DMF bought for Jose…a role that Poch always got given junk to fill. yet we are supposed to believe this squad is not as good as under Poch? We are failing as a club. So there are 2 options. Jose not as good as Poch (I dont believe that) or Jose is screwing the pooch on purpose to encourage purchases? I do not believe our squad is worse than Leicester, Everton, West Ham or Villa. Do any of you honestly think we do? I would say a fully fit squad, our starting 14 is easily top 3. So we are under performing by at least 5 places, potentially 6 or 7.
Av a look…50 seconds in the 4th round just before first ‘knockdown’ Warrington clutches Lara and they’re head to head and Warrington clearly says something in Lara’s ear.
Talk about NFL and Prem….the boxing has come and taken the joke shop crown. The Hearns don’t like losing money and Eddie made sure he recouped ALL he’s lost in these lockdowns. Alright for some. Clearly fixed that Warrington v Lara fight for the 14/1 outsider. Warrington s Norman Wisdom spaghetti legs were Grade F for drama I’m afraid and the “knockdowns” aaahahahaha!! It looked soooooo bad, is anyone falling for this utter farce anymore?? Really….watch the clear dives. It’s too much I nearly spat out my breakfast. Hahaha!
I mean replacements for Lamlea, Lucas and Bergwijn and use the three youngsters as back up.
In the good old days under Poch – you know when we played great football all the time like the 0-0 at Wembley vs Swansea and never dropped silly points (like the 0-0 at Wembley vs Swansea) involved us having two wing backs (Walker and Rose) who were in great form. They were not the best defenders but they had enough about them to get up and down the pitch and so assist us when both attacking and defending.
Give Japhet and Reggie those shirts for a long run and seek alternatives for when they are injured / need a rest (Sessignon + 1, maybe Aurier is still worth a place as back up?).
Get a couple of quality centre halves (Dier and Rodon as back ups) and a keeper (Sam Johnstone?)
PEH, Ndom, GLC and Skipp (I am not convinced Skipp is good enough at the top level but he has earned a chance).
That’s 3 in with Hugo, Doherty, Sanchez, Toby, Davies, Winks and maybe Sisokko out.
Then we just need to sort out Lamela, Lucas and Bergwijn (assuming Bale and Vini will be returned). Jack Clarke / Scarlett / Devine.
Trent AA made his debut for Liverpool aged 18 and has not looked back. We indulge our younger players for far too long. If they are good enough they are old enough and if not, what the hell are they doing at our club?
I would take top 4 over the Carabao because I think that might give Levy the financial encouragement so Jose gets what he needs to help us out of this mess.
Very likeable lad with a willing to learn attitude, can only improve, meanwhile was Sanchez on skies ?
One of the shinning lights, has great potential. Calm head on young shoulders.
Agree 100%.
That is the problem in a nutshell. How much of a rebuild will Levy support and how quick the turn around? Kane and Son probably need to leave for personal ambition unless Levy convinces otherwise. He may not see a player’s dilemma in this having no desire himself. The money might appeal to him.
Not sure about that. Let him develop as a defender first.
Short world class centre backs are rare.. Bobby moore and Carlos puyol spring to mind.. They were only 5 foot 10…. Japh is 6 foot, we won’t know unless we see… 90 per cent of the time players play their best in their favourite positions.
You’re right and I’m sure Maureen sees him as that.. If he favours CB though then I would like to see him play there. Our best CB is Toby but he needs pace around him its no good having Davies and Dier and Toby. Dier I would only consider if we are up against an aeriel threat. Sanchez has dropped to the bottom. Japh and Roden have impressed so I would try pairing those two with Toby. Japh first… Reg and Aurier are the best full backs……… Maureen clearly loves Dier though..
😂 Fair shout for your honesty my man, this cracked me right up…. Appalachia is a beautiful land.. Ye shall be known as ‘Hillbilly Willie’ … As long as this doesn’t offend.. Ha ha
He seems a little short to be a natural CB for me. Can’t see him not getting dominated trying to battle strikers to win aerials. But I’m with you, would like to see him starting more. RB for me.
You have to go easy on those poor folks in Alabama, they’re not the brightest bulbs in the lamp. I grew up in the deep south of the US, and among those states there is a sort of “hierarchy of backwardness” from worst state to best, and Alabama is always 3rd on that list, behind only Mississipi and West Virginia. It’s a cesspool of racists, morons, and country bumpkins (some of my extended family among them).
Can poch have Kane son and Dele for £300mil in used notes? £325m with Hugo
CDM japh one day. Will good enough to play in the middle too.
Maja. I knew we shoulda brought him back to London from Sunderland. He’s a player.
Understandable really, Japhet didn’t have one touchdown the whole game.
If Kane goes it’s plummet time.
He’s toast
AlabamaSpurs.org? ☺️
Some idiotic US website gave Japhet 3/10, virtually the worst player! Ridiculous.
Our best bet is that clubs won’t have the sort of money Levy will demand for these two. And it’s just as well, because the other forwards are incredibly inconsistent.
Kane and Son are worth their weight in gold.
He’s been quite assured at RB (fast and strong, decent crosser), so I wonder if that will turn out to be his best position in the end.
I also wonder what the best back four is – the only clear-cut member is Reguilon at LB, but I struggle to pick two CBs and the RB to go with him.
Useful to look at glimmers of hope, i.e. players who didn’t let their heads drop even though we didn’t play well and got well beaten. For Japhet to do that at 21 away at the Etihad in a poor team is pretty decent.
You’re assuming Kane and Son stick around without long term Champions League football…
I care… You don’t care when we lie down and get rolled over? 3 nil was flattering. It could easily have been more.
Would like to see the lad start more games now, preferably in his favoured centre back position.. After rotating the defence and giving everyone the same amount of games, it’s not working, time for Maureen to find his best back four, and best back 5, and best back 3 and stick with these against the big teams. Get some stability back there.
Rodon, Tanganga, Hojberg, Skipp, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Son, Kane to build on…..alot of work to do, alot of money needed.
For me, it should be him and the boy Rodon at CH. the future for sure. More reliable than the hapless Sanchez and Dier that’s for sure.
Everton lose 2 nil at home to Fulham. Another one…..
Certain folk have made a killing this season.
We lost 3-0 who cares
