Mourinho wants Liverpool type backing to transform Tottenham

Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is happy with his current options at Tottenham, but the Portuguese manager has used Liverpool as a reference to building a championship-winning team.

Mourinho has watched as Liverpool have backed Jurgen Klopp systematically every season, and now the German has helped them to end their wait to win a Premier League title.

They have also won the Champions League for the sixth time.

Mourinho was speaking ahead of his team’s match against Burnley today, and he admitted that he is very happy with the players that he has after the club backed him heavily in this transfer window.

However, the Portuguese manager claims that when the transfer window reopens next summer, he expects the club to give him a helping hand to improve his squad yet again.

Pointing out that Klopp constantly returned to the transfer market to make his Liverpool team better.

He said, as quoted by the Sun: “More than the squad, it is time to work and time for evolution.

“It is time to affect the team not just the way we play, but the way we think – sometimes the way we think takes more time than other things.

“I am very happy with the squad but, of course, next summer we will need to give a couple of touches, but this is what you always do to improve the squad.

“Look at Liverpool, for example, when Jurgen has been there. How many transfer windows? He went to the market and improved the team.”

I have to say that Liverpool have spent well under Klopp (can’t be successful all the time, Keita and Minamino have yet to impress), but they had to sell Coutinho and didn’t spend much last season. We might have to do that with Dele, Son or Kane next summer (Please let it be Dele). Like us, their owners do not have bottomless pockets like Utd, City and Chelsea, but unlike us (until this Summer) their recruitment team is first class. Jota was a very good signing, EPL ready with more than an ounce of quality. Thiago is a metronome, like Modric. Very good player who was relatively cheap. Copying Liverpool’s model is the way forward when you cannot match the real big spenders, they are hardly paupers, but when we buy big we have to buy right. Who are those players taking us to the next level? Long term I would take Dybala as a proper 10 instead of the imposter Dele. If Skriniar is the CB Jose wants who am I to argue? In the near future a GK will also be needed, but in the meantime Hugo will do.
