Islam Slimani has claimed that he was approached by Jose Mourinho to become the backup striker to Harry Kane in the January transfer window.
The Algerian has been on the books of Leicester City since 2016 when he joined them from Portuguese side, Sporting CP.
The striker hasn’t exactly been given the chance to have a career at the King Power Stadium and he was expected to leave the club again this summer, but he didn’t get a team that would take him.
However, while on loan at AS Monaco last season, he was in fine form at the start of his stint with the French side.
His good form prompted some teams to become interested in him, including Mourinho, he has claimed.
He claimed that the Special One approached him about making the move back to England with Spurs.
That transfer will have required him to terminate his contract with the Municipality side at the time, but it never happened.
He told France Football via Sport Witness: “In the space of six months, I went from the nightmare at Fenerbahçe to a phone call from José Mourinho who wanted to sign me. It shows that I worked well. Knowing that your profile is appreciated gives you strength and confidence”.

And then he woke up and had his cornflakes. Ppfft phone call from Jose, dream on lad.
