Eric Dier Didn’t Have A Howler For England, Contrary To Reports

ERIC DIER HEAT MAP VERSUS DENMARK

There are certainly issues with the tactics and the set up of this England side, however, neither of which are of Eric Dier’s doing. If you put the Tottenham boy’s name into Twitter this morning, the overwhelming theme is the usual post-England-game grunting and groaning.

PASSING ACCURACY 89%

In truth Dier was much better than anything Gareth Southgate was attempting to construct. Just 10 unsuccessful passes all game is no sign of distress, and marginally better on Eric’s mean average of good passes.

DUELS WON 62%

Duels won is another area where Eric comparatively excelled, his mean average for this discipline is currently 55.4%.

RECOVERIES IN OPPONENTS’ HALF 100%

Eric also swept as he cleaned, recovering the ball on a dozen occasions in the Danish half.

In conclusion, it might be an idea for Spurs fans not to rely upon social media reactions. The chances are, you may well be getting a bum steer from someone who wasn’t qualified to comment.

Enjoying life at the saints and would cost too much, can’t see him wanting to sit on the bench watching Harry play PL games every week.I really believe we need to convince a striker that we can rotate and give him ample games throughout the season not just when Harry gets injured. It would help us protect Harry as well for the bigger games,

Only because he was hung out on the left, put him central i bet that wouldn’t of happened. Name me one time you have seen Eric play left side of a defensive 3. Southgate has no clue how to unlock stubborn teams. To be fair most make the same mistake by putting speed merchants on, big mistake as it just wastes two bodies in the attack. You have to have a quality core of ball players who can operate in tight spaces.

You so don’t know football. Eric is a class act who has suffered badly with illness.
Has a great range of passing, which is really underrated.
One of the few players that can snap a straight driven pass into midfield or forward.
He best players make it look like they have time, I bet you thought the same about Carrick.

Agreed, I wonder what budget they are willing to spend on one, that’s the problem, I would like Ings but even he would probably cost too much.

He’s not a left footed center back, in any normal circumstances Maguire is going to play there. He’s not a particularly good CB imo, though neither is Davison Sanchez who looks like a confused and panicked puppy when trying to deal with high long balls, so I can see how Dier gets into our team.

Southgate needs to go, with the attacking talent in the squad and having scored like 1 goal in the last 500min of football – pack up the waistcoast and get lost Gaz.

I liked Watkins too Tony but it seems he wanted to play under Dean Smith again, maybe wanted to play every week also. I think we can still find someone like Milik for less money into his last year of his contract.I am happy with Hojbjerg & Doherty as upgrade starters so far,and I think there’s more to come.

Another transfer window, another farce, another player linked and missed.

I agree there. He lacks aggresion in the role. Its a shame. If I am honest, that is really all he needs, Keane was very poor at reading the game, so was Makele until he turned 30.

They won’t be waffling. That young boy (17) they’ve got from Anderlecht. He won’t be there long. Brave brave baller.

I don’t know why people complain about Eric Dier’s languid movement around the pitch, saying his running isn’t dynamic. He does run, as in trundle and it is quite energy saving.

Apparently Habib Diallo or Said Behrahma (or was it Saido Berahino?)

Well, I don’t mean ‘flair’, I suppose I mean tenacity. It’s international football and it should take a bit then being a bit better at tackling than other people. I don’t want Dier supplying Hollywood passes or running the length of the field to score 1 v1s but I want to see him more involved. Compare him with someone like Roy Keane. Dier just seems to wander about. You stick him in the midfield and you know what you’re gonna get (which clearly is what Southgate wants) – no dynamism. Dier has a narrow skill set, and that’s fine. Speed of thought and deed is not a part of it. But, if your skill set is narrow you should be bloody good at it. Not ‘adequate’. I just don’t know what he offers better than most other defensively minded top flight footballers.

Ollie Watkins has decided to join Aston Villa in the scrap against relegation joining up with his old boss Dean Smith. £28m with another £5m in add on’s. Watkins sold✅ Wilson sold✅ Muriqi sold✅ Who’s next Milik ?

Southgate is the problem for you guys and he is slowly being found out. With the players you have at your disposal you should be spanking Iceland and be too good for Denmark but they were the better team.

but that is what he is…he is not there to win you games, he is there to stop you losing them. Blaming a defensive minded player for lacking flair is nuts. He is sturdy, and reliable. Its not coincidence he had his best season when the team were flying, its because he could do his job nd let others do theirs.

Eriksen turned him like he wasn’t there. Proper mugged him off. (Second half)

But, statistics only show one part. Although he has no choice if he is picked it’s his general demeanour as a ‘stodgy’ player. The way he moves has no snap or drive. He brings no personality (something that is missing across the whole squad – no, personality doesn’t win you games but it does create a team, which in turn can win you games). He is just indicative of a general malaise and lack of dynamism. But yes, I admit, a lot of that is tactics, it’s who he is and if Southgate picks him it’s clear that that’s what he wants…but I dunno, I know he’s Spurs so I should support him but whatever the statistics say he’s an uninspiring player in a team of largely uninspiring and bland robots doing a job and ticking off the stats.

Yes, reading stuff along the lines of ‘their star player Eriksen left him for dead on one occasion – didn’t he train with him for years’

True, but the bloke is still their best player so…?
