It is starting to look like Tottenham have finally found a replacement for Serge Aurier

Tottenham is in the market for a new right-back in this transfer window as Serge Aurier continues to struggle in that position for the club.

The Ivorian is one player that is unpredictable and the Lilywhites might cash in on him when the right offer comes in.

They have looked at signing several full-backs in this transfer window and they may have found the perfect signing.

One of the more impressive full-backs in the Premier League is Wolves’, Matt Doherty.

The defender has put in some of the finest performances by a full-back since he helped Wolves gain promotion back into the top flight.

Football. London claims that he is coveted by Jose Mourinho and is valued at £12 million and the signs are there that the Portuguese has decided on Doherty as the man to solve his right-back problems.

The Republic of Ireland international explained last year why he is probably the best full-back for Spurs to sign when he explained his style of play and adaptability when he plays as a left-back to Pundit Arena.

“I played two seasons there for Wolves – one and a half seasons, maybe, it was – so it would be nothing new to me. I know that I’ll be able to adapt to it and if that’s the case, then it shouldn’t really be a problem and I should be able to play just almost as well as I can on the other side,” he said last year.

“Positionally, if I’m on the right-hand side you automatically know where you’re meant to be – if you’re meant to be a little bit higher or deeper

“Going to the left everything feels a little bit off. You might be a little too high at times, or a little too close to the centre-back at times. Going forward there is no real issue, it’s more defensively. Positionally, it might take a couple of minutes to get used to, but that’s it.

“You can cut in, you can do many things.

“You can play long-field passes, shoot, play one-twos and they always think you’re going to go inside, which allows you to go down the line too.

“I enjoy going forward from the left, it opens the game up.”

It really does look like it is the Wolves man that will be heading to North London over the likes of Max Aarons and Zeki Celik.

16 mil.. The player probably said yes please when we enquired.. Wolves probably weren’t so keen.

16 million fee agreed…. He has more goals and assists in him last season than all our new midfielders put together… Docherty’s a good signing… Now a striker and left back next priorities.. Centre back also needed.. Slowly but surely.. More shrewd and clever signings like this and we will improve for sure.

Not sure if the transfer rumors are true but most wolves player now excite me

Mourinho had admired their energy when we last play them , he describe their full backs as unbelievable engines that run all day . Sure , if it happens Matt Docherty will surely be an upgrade .

Hard to understand why Wolves are looking to sell him when he has been so good for them and is not that old. £12 million seems ludicrous for one of the Premier League’s best backs.

Why would he want to leave wolves? Coz a big club in London wants him. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR.

Seem to be targeting experienced players who will slot in straight away , instead of young with potential, smacks of Mourinho for sure, but the fees are definitely Levy’s.

He’s a good player no doubt and has been cracking at wolves in defence. Why would he leave? If it’s for wages (what else) then can we compete or is it his agent looking to get him a pay rise. I’d like him in place of Aurier for the simple reason that he’s a blood and guts defender with a bit of swagger who defends well and can drive down the wing

So many media outlets are running with the story that it sounds feasible and now reports Wolves are looking at Valencia right back as a possible replacement. If a player like Doherty who has served his club for ten years was interested in a move away to better himself quite often his club won’t stand in his way.He ticks a lot of boxes for us,Homegrown,PL proven,Consistent performer, and within our price range, although Wolves are asking £20m.The club that sold him in Ireland ten years ago for £75,000 have a 10 percent sell on fee, which if he went for £12m-£15m would be massive for them.

Fair enough, those are all potentially valid reasons. Yet the boy is on record as saying, only last week, that he hoped to play for Wolves for another 5 or 6 years. So, I am doubtful if there is any real truth in this one, or whether it is just the usual ‘throw a dart at the board’ type of lazy reporting that passes for journalism these days.

(1)This could be his last chance to sign for a bigger club because of his age 28 (2)Wolves aren’t in Europe,(3)Money ,Aurier is getting £20,000 a week more in wages (4) Jose factor his track record for winning.(5) Ten years is a long time at a club maybe needs a new challenge.

To be honest, I am not sure if there is a word of truth in it! Why would the boy want to leave Wolves? He is their longest serving player and an integral part of the team. I also cannot see why they would want to sell him? In addition to which he is under contract, Wolves have owners with pretty deep pockets and we’re pleading poverty as usual and quibbling over pennies. Given all of the above, I rate it extremely unlikely, maybe 1/10. Having said that, I think it would be a decent signing and a distinct upgrade on Aurier.
