VAR Hits New Low As Officials Admit Lo Celso Decision Was Wrong

The absolute fiasco that is VAR has sunk to new depths.

Officials at Stockley Park have admitted that they got the decision not to send Giovani Lo Celso off for his tackle on Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta wrong, according to BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey.

Everybody could clearly see that, but for them to actually hold their hands up and confess that they made a mistake is unprecedented.

David Coote was the man in front of the monitor and initially gave this reason for letting Lo Celso off – “there was nowhere else to put his foot.”

That in itself is flawed as it suggests Lo Celso was out of control. I’m not sure that to be the case – my opinion on the tackle can be read here.

However, Coote, a referee with only 23 Premier League games under his belt, compared to on-field referee Michael Oliver’s 250, then changed his mind and admitted that it should have been a red card for serious foul play.

Was it a deliberate stamp of his foot or unintentional? To me there was no intent – yellow card.
