Alleged Spurs Target Steven Bergwijn Doesn’t Quite Look Like An Out & Out Striker [opinion+video]

The latest name on the Tottenham Hotspur transfer radar appears to that of PSV’s Steven Bergwijn, who the Daily Mail are describing as a striker.

The problem is, he doesn’t look like one from much viewed clip. There’s also the fact that Soccerway show that for the 2019/20 season so far, Steven has scored 5 goals in 16 league games, which is hardly prolific. In fact the greatest number of league goals the Dutchman has ever scored in a season was 15, in 2018/19.

The Mail add, “Bergwijn is due to miss PSV’s clash against FC Twente today because of Tottenham’s interest.

If anything, this lad looks like any number of players we already have on our books, perhaps most in the mould of Lucas Moura?

Looking through his positions for PSV this season, the boy has drifted considerably, playing as a CF, LAMF, LWF and LCMF.

Looking at an Eridivisie game he scored in, against Fortuna Sittard, the 22-year-old’s heat map looks an awful lot like Heung Son-Min – when he’s having a good game.

Lots of young players suggests Jose is possibly holding the reigns for someone else? Rodgers, Potter, some German bloke who’s good with youngsters?

He might be good, at least he’s not from Ligue 1. Any young player at that price from France is generally overhyped and mediocre. NoClue, Clinton Cards, Stambouli, Capoue and Aurier… none of them good enough. Holland produces better technique I reckon…

Bargain bucket transfers again, who knows, he might be brilliant. I had to Google him… 😂

Looks like the sort of player a club like Burnley might bring in, strong, quick and direct. Good enough to improve us? We’ll have to see…

Jose wants fast players to play on the counter effectively. Eriksen’s replacement is GLC, expect a striker too. The whole Bale thing is more nonsense as this latest 30m punt plays the same role pretty much.

Fits the Son, Moura mould. We only need one striker and a swarm of wingers, running in all directions.

He doesn’t look like a striker because he’s a winger …… just what we need
