CEO defends Inter Milan transfer meeting with Christian Eriksen agent

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has admitted that there have been transfer talks with representatives of Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen.

Denmark international Eriksen’s time at Spurs could soon be over. The 27-year-old has less than six months left on his contract, so may leave on a free transfer in the summer, if not for a modest fee before then.

Eriksen’s agent was recently spotted chatting to Marotta – something that is not considered tapping up, because foreign clubs are permitted to talk to players (and their entourage) who are in the final six months of their contract.

Marotta made that point when he opened up about the transfer talks this week.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by the Daily Mail, Marotta said: “Eriksen is a Tottenham player, but his contract expires in June, so it’s entirely legitimate and authorised to see his agent in this period.”

Inter may well be the favourites to land Eriksen, but Marotta has suggested that there is competition for his signature.

He continued: “That’s a long way off saying he’ll come here in January or June, because there is a great deal of competition and we don’t know what will happen yet.”

Inter’s interest in Eriksen could have been influenced by his performances against them in last season’s Champions League. Eriksen netted home and away against Inter, including a dramatic winner at Wembley.
