God loves a trier. And Spurs fans would really love Jose Mourinho if he managed to bring Luka Jovic to Tottenham this winter.
Unfortunately though, that seems unlikely. A report by DefensaCentral in Spain has claimed that Mourinho reached out by phone to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to ask if a deal could be done for Jovic.
Mourinho used to work for Perez and the pair are said to be on good terms. But DefensaCentral suggest that Mourinho’s good relationship with Perez is unlikely to be enough to persuade Real to make Jovic available.
Jovic has only scored one goal in 18 appearances for Real, with most of those outings coming as a substitute.
But the report states that Real are unwilling to let him leave this month and that there is a feeling at the Bernabeu that the 22-year-old will come good.
Despite his failure to hit the ground running in Spain, Jovic would have been a brilliant short-term replacement for Harry Kane, who is currently sidelined following hamstring surgery.
Jovic bagged 27 goals in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, establishing himself as a Europewide star name and prompting Real to splash out around 60m euros, according to Marca.
With Jovic unavailable, Mourinho must now find an alternative target capable of filling the Kane-shaped void for the next three months… and possibly beyond.
Kane limped off against Southampton on New Year’s Day and initial post-surgery reports, cited by The Guardian, claimed that Tottenham had only ruled their No.10 out until April.
However, it was recently suggested by a leading surgeon, who has not been involved in Kane’s treatment, that April could be an optimistic and possibly unrealistic return date.

We have promising young already with parrot… We need a quality complete target man who can play alongside kane, but also good enough to cover for him when hes not there.. Someone with pace would compliment him I would love vardy. Age to me is irrelevant really its all about how good they are. Think michael owen at 18. Or mbappe at 19.. anyone good enough.
The real question is do we get a cheap temporary option, a cheap promising young forward or a proven impact forward who can form a partnership if Kane comes good?
Let’s hope his contacts help, pretty ambitious move if true.
