Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bundesliga manager Xabi Alonso.
The former Liverpool midfielder has done an exceptional job at Bayer Leverkusen and he has guided them to the semifinals of the UEFA Europa League this season. Leverkusen take on Roma in the semifinals and they will be hoping to go all the way in the competition.
Leverkusen have impressed in the German league as well (sixth in the table) and Alonso has certainly proven himself to be a talented young manager.
According to a report from De Telegraaf, Feyenoord’s Arne Slot remains on Tottenham’s wishlist but he is not the top candidate to take over at the North London club. Apparently, Alonso has emerged as the first-choice target for Tottenham.
Managing a Premier League club like Tottenham would be a major step up in Alonso’s career and it remains to be seen whether he is prepared to take over at the London club.
The 41-year-old Spaniard has proven himself to be a tactically proficient manager in Germany so far and he could help Tottenham succeed in the coming seasons.
Furthermore, he is used to working with limited resources at Leverkusen and he could be the ideal fit for Tottenham, who cannot outspend their rivals in the Premier League.
Furthermore, attacking players like Moussa Diaby have excelled under his management this season and he could get the best out of players like Richarlison and Son Heung-Min.
The North London outfit seem likely to miss out on Champions League qualification next season but they will be hoping to finish the season as strongly as possible.
