Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to improve their defensive options this summer.
They have been linked with a move for the Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in recent weeks.
The 30-year-old central defender has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and he needs to play regularly in order to get his career back on track. With the European championships coming up next summer, he will need to play more often in order to cement his place as a starter for the England national team.
According to journalist Paul Brown, Maguire would consider a move to Tottenham if the North London outfit were keen on signing him.
Speaking to Football FanCast, he said: “I think Maguire at Spurs is quite an interesting one. It might be a club he’d consider. I know obviously, they finished well off the Champions League pace last season, so I don’t have that to offer him but I think you know, the size of the club and the reputation of it. I think it’s something, I think it’s a move he would consider.”
Spurs were quite vulnerable defensively last season and they need to bring in defensive reinforcements.
They conceded 63 goals in the league last season and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right additions before the summer transfer window closes.
Along with Harry Maguire, Tottenham have been linked with players like Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven.
Despite his underwhelming performances for Manchester United, Maguire has proven his quality in the Premier League with Leicester City in the past and he could be a useful acquisition for Tottenham.
Regular football at the London club could help him regain his confidence and get back to his best.
If Spurs can sign him for a reasonable price this summer, it could be a deal worth doing.
