28-year-old wants to leave the club next month but Ange is set to block his exit

By Mehdi Gokal -

Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur next month, rather than wait until the summer.

That is according to a report from Italian outlet La Stampa (via Last Word On Spurs), which claims that the 28-year-old is keen to leave in the upcoming transfer window but manager Ange Postecoglou may block a move after the injury to Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham are going through a squad crisis, particularly in the defense and midfield. James Maddison is out injured and not expected back before February while Rodrigo Benancur who had only returned from a long-term injury in November suffered another injury from a poor Matty Cash challenge sidelining him for the next couple of months.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, Ange’s preferred starters will miss upto 4 to 6 games due to their participation in the AFCON which starts January. This leaves Ange with Skipp and Hojbjerg as the two options in the midfield.

This is why any move in the upcoming window for the Danish midfielder is extremely unlikely unless Spurs sign a top-class midfielder or two next month.
