28-year-old Tottenham attacker recorded as Spurs’ fastest player this season

Timo Werner has emerged as Tottenham Hotspur’s speed king this season, clocking an impressive top speed of 35.69 km/h, according to official Premier League data.

The German international, who joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January 2024, has outpaced even Micky van de Ven, who previously held the title for the club’s fastest player.

Werner’s speed ranks him as the second-fastest player in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, who tops the chart at 35.74 km/h.

This feat underscores Werner’s explosive pace and his ability to stretch opposition defences with his rapid runs.

In his short time at Spurs, Werner has made a noticeable impact. On his debut, he provided a crucial assist for Rodrigo Bentancur’s equaliser in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Werner quickly followed that up with his first goal in a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, solidifying his importance in Tottenham’s attacking setup.

His performances in the second half of the 2023-24 season prompted Tottenham to extend his loan for another year, with the option to make the deal permanent for £8.5 million.

Manager Ange Postecoglou has found Werner’s pace and versatility to be key assets in his tactical approach, as the forward has offered the team an extra edge in their attacking play.

Although Micky van de Ven still holds the Premier League’s all-time sprint speed record of 37.38 km/h, set last season, Werner’s lightning-fast runs have added a new dimension to Tottenham’s game this term.
