26-year-old outcast heading to Tottenham at the end of the season

By Saikat -

Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon is currently on loan at Spanish club Atletico Madrid and he is set to return to the club in the summer.

The 26-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at the London club and he needed to leave in order to play regularly.

However, the loan move has not gone according to plan for the Spanish left back and he has been overlooked at Atletico Madrid this season.

The defender has had just 98 minutes of first-team action and it is clear that Diego Simeone does not trust the 26-year-old’s defensive qualities.

As per Football Insider, Reguilon is all set to return to Tottenham now and it remains to be seen whether he can force his way back into the Premier League club’s starting lineup next season.

The 26-year-old arrived at Tottenham with massive expectations but he has not been able to adapt to English football and the move has not worked out for either party.

Reguilon remains a useful player but he is currently lacking in confidence and sharpness. Returning to Tottenham might not be beneficial to him in terms of recapturing his form.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.

Reguilon will still feel that he has time to turn things around at Atletico Madrid and prove his quality to Diego Simeone. A permanent move away from Tottenham Hotspur would be ideal for all parties and it remains to be seen whether the Premier League club can find a suitor for the 26-year-old defender at the end of the season.

He is unlikely to get ample game time in the Premier League next season, especially with Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon ahead of him in the pecking order.
