Club insider John Wenham claims that Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman will leave the club this summer.
Tottenham are expected to undergo massive changes in the upcoming window, with a number of players expected to leave. The outgoings are poised to play a big role in the incomings.
Bryan Gil and Djed Spence are two players who could lead the summer clear-out, since they are not in Ange’s plans.
Another player who could leave the club is goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman. The 25-year-old is way below the pecking order at the club right now.
Guglielmo Vicario is Tottenham’s first choice goalkeeper, with Fraser Forster his backup.
Tottenham also have Brandon Austin, another 25-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract with the club yesterday.
He was named as a substitute for Tottenham’s last 14 games this past season, indicating that the club see him as a long-term backup to Vicario.
This is why club insider John Wenham thinks that Aflie Whiteman will leave the club this summer.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham claimed that Austin’s long-term contract means the end of Whiteman’s time at Spurs.
He said:
“Whiteman is now essentially the fourth-choice goalkeeper.”
“With Austin having also been preferred on the bench toward the end of the season, I think it is almost certain that Whiteman will move on this summer.
“It has been made abundantly clear that Austin is the third choice, and even if Fraser Forster was to move on, Whiteman would still struggle to get into the squad.
“So that’s one change we will likely see this summer.”
