23-year-old has ‘caught the eye’ of Tottenham and they want him in January

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to improve their squad during the January transfer window and they are keen on signing a central defender in the coming weeks.

A report from Fichajes claims that the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has ‘caught the eye’ of Tottenham and Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The English defender is highly rated in the Premier League and he has proven himself to be a reliable performer in the top flight with Crystal Palace. There is no doubt that he is good enough to play for the top clubs and he would certainly improve Tottenham if he joined the north London club.

Tottenham defender Micky Van de Ven is sidelined with an injury and Eric Dier has been linked with an exit from the club. They will need to bring in a quality central defender in January and Guehi would be a solid acquisition.

The 23-year-old will want to take the next step in his development and joining a big club will be an attractive proposition for him. Regular football with Tottenham will help him cement his place in the England starting lineup as well.

Tottenham will be hoping to return to the Champions League at the end of the season, and they must plug the gaps in their squad in January to finish the season strongly.

The 23-year-old defender could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero and Van de Ven at the heart of Tottenham’s defence, and his arrival would sort out their defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
