18-year-old could make his first appearance for Tottenham against Wolves

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham summer signing Ashley Phillips could make the squad for the game against Wolves.

The 18-year-old joined Spurs in the summer from Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £2m and immediately impressed Ange who decided not to loan the youngster out.

He broke into the Blackburn team last season and made a significant impact making 14 appearances across all competitions at just 17 years of age.

In his first interview with Tottenham’s official channel, Phillips expressed his aspiration to be an active part of the first-team environment in the upcoming season.

And he may get the chance sooner than he thought due to the nightmare suffered against Chelsea. Cristian Romero got a direct red card which means he will miss the next three games while Micky van de Ven suffered a significant hamstring injury which could keep him out for the foreseeable future.

Eric Dier is the only backup centre back Spurs have with make-shift Ben Davies injured as well.

This gives the opportunity to Phillips to step up and make his mark in the first team.

According to Last Word On Spurs, Phillips has not included in the Tottenham U21s squad that will face Cambridge and is therefore likely to be involved with first team against Wolves.

They shared the breaking news on X:

“Tottenham Hotspur summer signing Ashley Phillips has NOT been included in the Spurs U21 squad to face Cambridge.

The central defender is therefore likely to at least be in the Premier League squad on Saturday to play Wolves.”

He has already gotten the backing of his teammate Dejan Kulusevski who has claimed that the youngster “will be ready” if he is asked to make his debut against Wolves in the coming weekend.
