18-goal ace ‘definitely’ open to Spurs move, could be final piece of Conte’s puzzle – opinion

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

Recently Dean Jones claimed that the midfielder would ‘definitely’ be open to joining the London club this summer, should the opportunity arise in the coming weeks.

Apparently, Leicester City are under financial duress as per the Telegraph and they could be forced to sell the 25-year-old playmaker before the transfer window closes.

Maddison has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League and he managed to score 18 goals across all competitions last season. In addition to that, the midfielder picked up 12 assists and he could be a sensational long-term acquisition.

Although Tottenham have some excellent attackers at their disposal, they are slightly lacking in the creative department. Midfielder Christian Eriksen was linked with a move to the London club earlier on in the summer but the former Spurs player has opted to sign for Manchester United instead.

Spurs could definitely use a creative midfielder like Maddison and it remains to be seen whether they decide to take advantage of this opportunity and sign the player for a knock-down price.

Spurs will be able to offer him Champions League football and there is no doubt that the midfielder is likely to be tempted to join Antonio Conte’s side if there is a concrete offer on the table.

Tottenham have improved their squad significantly this summer and Maddison could be the final piece of the puzzle for them.

The Londoners were as good as any side towards the end of last season and there is no reason why they cannot challenge for the title after the additions they have made in the transfer window.

Someone like Maddison could give them a more cutting edge in the final third and help them push the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.

Apart from being an excellent creator and goal scorer, the Leicester City midfielder can be lethal from free kicks and he would add a new dimension to Tottenham’s attack.

The transfer makes sense for all parties in theory and Spurs should do everything in their power to get the deal across the line.

If we buy Maddison he will start ..otherwise he isn’t coming to Spurs..good player will be dear but I see little point on spunking 17/ mil on Depay , who has not cut it in the EPL v someone who can.

As noted in the piece Maddison excels at free kicks, something the squad sorely lacks. So that alone adds value.

I thought we were chasing Zanilio from Roma. Maddison will be a HUGE cost and will not start in our current squad unless we played a front 2, this would exclude both Kulusevski and Richarlson. Dont belive we would be after either TBH, not now.

To be honest, would love if we moved to a 3-4-1-2 formation. Many time last season we would get over run in midfield because we would be 2 v 3. Also it would help the load of expecting the WBs to deliver all the creativity (esp with the WBs we got 😀 )

Lots of games to be played, and he’s used 3-5-2 at former clubs. We need options and an AM is essential to the squad

My thoughts exactly. Conte would have to change his formation. Can’t see it.

Great player but where does he play in Conte’s 3-4-3?
