11 O’Clocker: Personal terms agreed with potential new striker

By The Boy -

Transfers are generally, but particularly at Spurs, complex beasts with more factors to be juggled than many might imagine. In the case of Callum Wilson the first step was getting the wage demands brought kicking and screaming into the financially challenging Coronavirus riddled 21st century. It is my understanding from a source close to the club that this has been accomplished and now, other parts of the puzzle are required to be moved.

Oliver Skipp has gone to Norwich and Luke Amos to Queens Park Rangers, and in these testing times every little helps. Getting a deal over the line for Serge Aurier would free up the £70,000 pwk basic for Wilson (who was finally convinced when Spurs’ bonus structure was explained to him). That said, Vertonghen was on £90,000 pwk…

My understanding is that Arkadiusz Milik would be José Mourinho’s preferred choice but Tottenham’s budget is a million miles away from the £30million or so Napoli are likely to demand.

Mourinho is desperate for a player that can be used to rotate with Kane, and many of you will recall his lament for one when Kane was last out, something along the lines of ‘I don’t even have a striker in the stands’.

Any deal for Wilson is some way off, until Mr Levy gets all his duckies in a row, nothing can happen.

We know where the bar is when we are scrabbling around the likes of Southampton and Bournemouth for players. I hope the Dane comes good but remain to be convinced that he will not be yet another bang average player. As for Wilson more of the same. We are linked with these two and Arsenal are linked with Willian and Coutinho. The new stadium heralded a new dawn as Levy now sets his sites on Wafa Cup qualification as the bench mark and lowers his already low standards.

Not even close. His record as a first team striker for Bournemouth is appalling. Levy going down the basement buckets again. No surprise there. Welcome to Daniel’s world, Jose.

If Callum Wilson was really

finally convinced when Spurs’ bonus structure was explained to him

Did they explain to him that to earn his bonuses he would have to play and score goals? Did they explain that Harry Kane will always play for 90m?

I would agree that £30m does sound reasonable. So let’s say you want to do business – the only problem is, you only have £10m. What do you do then? “Simples – sell some of our players” I hear you say. That’s when the problems arise. No one has any money. No one makes any offers….. transfer window rumbles on…

Average player… Goals in him at times.. Goes missing at times.. Injured quite alot for a young lad, can expect more injuries as he’s getting older now… A huge problem in this window (as well as no money) is that we need english players.

Welcome to the world of Levy – he reminds me of the Groucho Marx joke “I wouldnt want to be in a club that would have me as a member”. When we buy players, “is he good enough” no, but if he were good enough, he wouldnt want to come for our money, so if we signed him, he is clearly not good enough. Unless Levy somehow changes his spots, we will not see a true game changer come to our club. This is why ENIC did great moving us from mid-table to top 4, but will never push us further. The tipping point in needing to buy real players is simply not in their mentality. What we will see when Jose leaves is a roster full of players he got on free, on pretty decent wages adding very little to the future. For as much as I dislike Jose, this will not be his fault.

As I thought. Dybala yes, but no money, Wilson no for any old reason

What do you get if you cross a fire sale with a blind auction and Guantanamo bay?

We do have a habit of finding it difficulty to sell players because they are normally average players on high wages or Levy wants too much..the pandemic hasn’t changed the way Levy goes about his business. We normally get one in early that no one expects and then it all goes down to the last few days of scrambling around and the manager rarely gets his first choice…….hopefully Jose has influence and seems to be reasonable in his requests, and for me if he wants Milik at 30m that seems reasonable…

Problem is finding clubs who want to buy our rejects. I’ve been saying this for ages, but hardly any clubs will have any money.

The transfer window opened on July 27th, and 3 weeks later how many transfers have we seen go through, let alone big money ones? All mid table sides are waiting to sell before they can buy.

It’s easy to say sell “X player” and buy “Y player” but the premise relies on clubs being in a healthy financial state. The Pandemic has sucked billions out of football in the short term.

But seriously, is this our bold new vision. Is he good enough

Mourinho will be overjoyed to have “a striker in the stands”, might even get to play for the 3-4 months of every season that Kane is out of action — but Callum Wilson will have to surrender his place just as he’s getting good, only for Kane to spend another two months on the pitch coming right as he does.

£30m gross optimistic, IMO Lamela is worth £15m at best!

No offers for Lamela yet, shifting players is our biggest problem now..

30m or so for a player Jose wants, thats hardly breaking the bank….our new motto should be “why buy 1st, when 2nd or 3rd will do”…

Has Levy ever had his duckies in a row in the last 20 years when it comes to the stuff involving the round thingy and a cuppla onion bags? 😂

Makes it up as he goes along…
