10’Clocker: Forget The Press Speculation José Doesn’t Want Or Need The Mooted Serie A Transfer Target
By Harry Hotspur -

José Mourinho may take a little bit of getting used to for some Tottenham fans. The 56-year-old is not your garden variety Spurs manager. Since the Portuguese’s appointment, Mourinho has managed to convince Daniel Levy to pursue a distinctly different course to that of his predecessor, Mauricio Pochettino. Instead of building and nurturing, the Kosher One has embarked upon a course of shipping in no less than 5 player that are pretty much diametrically opposed to any previous ‘THFC purchasing model’.

The Boy Hotspur understands from a source close to the club that media speculation about a return of Christian Eriksen to Tottenham is fiction.

The doe eyed Dane EVENTUALLY went Inter Milan in January 2020 for a fee of around £16.9million. José Mourinho is quite cold when it comes to the public relations of signings, and the potential acquisition of Antonio Rudiger didn’t fuss José at all. The gaffer wants to win.

Mourinho neither wants nor needs Eriksen.

I don’t know about this one. I never warmed to him but accepted that for a time he was behind a lot of the good stuff at Spurs.
I do remember when he joined he said something like “I have a plan” and I read it that he wanted to move on from Spurs to RM eventually.
Always a bit of an enigma but we have moved on now from him.

I bet he’s gutted now he left Tottenham. He probably believed like the rest of the morons that levy wouldn’t show any ambition at the new lane. How wrong was he and the rest of them.

He was a very good player for Spurs during his time there. Understandably, he became unhappy when his peer group at the club were earning far more than him, eg, Alli was on over £100,000 and Eriksen was on £70,000. Levy allowed this disparity to continue which rankled with Eriksen. Then there was also the curious rumour about his wife having an affair with a fellow Spurs player, and Jan’s black eye was never explained. I wonder how he would contribute to the team now that the defence and defensive midfield are much sounder. One shouldn’t expect a player like Eriksen to act like a water carrier. His stats bear out his contribution and if we could buy him back at a commercial price, I would welcome him back. It will be interesting to see if Poch ends up at Utd, or even City, a new rumour, whether he will win the silverware he didn’t manage to do at Spurs. At least if he was to get a job with either of these two clubs, it would dispel the theory that he was incapable of getting a job with a top team.

I am sure he will bear your advice in mind if and when he gets the job offer. Just out of interest, as you always moan that Poch was a loser and never won anything, what do you base your opinion on that Nuno is a better coach? He hasn’t won anything either which seems to be your yardstick.

Eriksen is too lightweight & NOT a José type player! As talented as he can be, he isn’t one to chase/tackle back, nor put hard graft shifts in.
Another player Pochettino ‘favourited’ & allowed to cruise through too many matches with only the occasional & not enough touches of brilliance.

I’m happy to be proven wrong with Jose. I’ve said I doubt the relationship with him and Levy would work out long term . That the two would be a long way apart eventually. We still don’t know that, we will see in a couple of years.

I’d prefer he’d stuck with Poch but it’s not just about what I think or others like me. If it works out with any other manager for the team to be successful that’s the most important thing.

I think Jose’s best day’s might be behind him, I have never questioned his record, only that it was a few years ago and also questioned how it would work at Spurs with Levy.

Now some signings have been made and Levy is doing some stuff to help things look better. I don’t care about egg on my face or anything about that if we’re winning. Lots of winning and lots of egg? No problem.

My point was regarding Poch, I predict it will happen to all those writing the guy off. If anyone thinks Poch is a poor manager then they will need See how that plays out long term.

If you want to make it a little game of who was right about this it or that on this blog then that’s great.

I couldn’t care less if the team are doing well. The only reason why I question Levy and his decisions is because I want what’s best for the club. Nothing else.

If he’s right for Tottenham and the football is good then Levy will get full credit from me. Meanwhile you lot can keep slagging off Poch, for what reason I cannot tell you. Jealous of his bbq or what? 😂

Any football team is made up of different types of players. Some are quicker, some can dribble or shoot better, some head the ball better, some can see and execute a pass better than their teammates. Just being able to make a crunching tackle is not enough to win matches at the highest level. Many offensive midfield players are not renowned for their tackling ability.

BIG difference between chasing/tackling back, putting players under pressure, putting a solid shift in & not drifting in & out of matches, etc & having the best distance covered stats, FFS!
How do his goals & assists stack up against comparative players at other (big) clubs? When did he last get booked for a tackle/foul/trip/shirt pull, etc?
He is a drifter, NOT a grafter!

On his goals/ assists im sure he done alright for an 11 mil player on 70 k maybe we should ask Kane?
He wasnt all bad and at times worth a ton of money so that would say not entirely useless .
Probably i player we should have sold a year earlier but hey who is to know at the time.

A good boss keeps his key staff happy. Levy didn’t pay him the going rate, and then tried to sell him for between £135 and £150 mill, based on the price achieved by Liverpool for Coutinho. The net result was that we sold an unhappy player for circa £16 mill. Not good business if one is still allowed to criticise Levy on this site without being gratuitously insulted for having a different opinion.

I actually feel that this spending spree mirrors the one Arry went on.

All proven players, not massive fees but ones fit for the job. Arry brought Defoe and Keane back, Got players like Crouch etc. PEH from Saints provides the grit in midfield that Palacios brought when he came in from Wigan.

Even the Bale deal with him out of favour at Madrid and Real paying part of his wages has echoes of the VDV transfer.

I don’t think this is a revolution by Levy, more his realisation that when you bring in an old proven campaigner, that you have at least try to provide them with what they need in the present. Similarly I don’t feel that Levy sees this as a particularly long term arrangement.

Just as Arry was brought in to steer the club from relegation, Jose was hired to get top four but last season proved that the squad was stale, regardless of who the manager was.

I see a lot of parallels with Arry. Lots of transfers but no massive ones. Tanguy is the new Modric too, it’s quite uncanny…

I think you’ll find that there is infinitely more money in fourth than if you even won both domestic cups. Most clubs prioritise Champions League qualification because of the money, if you’ve been out of the picture like Arsenal, you take a domestic cup on.

Which is probably why Levy wants it before any cups, which is the point I’ve been trying to make all along. Get called all sorts of stuff just for agreeing with Levy… hmmmm 🤔

You’ve stamped nothing out. The thing is that when someone says something you don’t like (generally about the owners) you immediately call them names like ‘fake’, ‘weak’ ‘disloyal’ and ‘negative’. They come back at you with something and your only response is basically offering them out for a fight. Like we did the school playground.

It’s one dimensional, belligerent and ultimately extremely boring, because you aren’t interested in putting facts forward and making your point as a sensible counter argument.

I respect that people have differing opinions and those that stick by their guns, but unless they can come back with something credible as an argument rather than getting very quickly aggressive, the whole discussion is dead. It’s as if someone who has a different viewpoint is personally attacking you. It’s just nonsensical.

If you can’t discuss points on a certain level then there’s no constructive conversation, and when that happens there is no longer any point in it.

Which is why I just cannot be bothered to read them anymore.

Levy we’ve had over 20 years, we know how he works, well some of us do. I don’t ever see him getting us even close to the spending of Citeh, Utd, Liverpool, Cheatski.

As with Arry he seems to be doing some deals for the present time at the moment. Not massive fees or wages but very decent Premiership players. I got shot down (as so often) when comparing the Bale deal to the VDV, hear me out. Both from Real Madrid, both were not in the managers plans there, both had injury problems. Real subsidised VDV’s wages too for a while.

I see it as a similar mindset from Levy now, I don’t mind how it’s done so long as it works. I’m just cautious about Levy’s longer term plans, that they might revert back sooner or later. We’ll see…

Thing is, everything I’ve been going on about regarding the owners and since the stadium was built, the debt that has to be serviced is felt just as strongly by HH. Much of his last vlog was (if you even watched it) was highly critical of Levy, in the same way I and others are and have been.

The thing I find most telling is that we don’t see you replying to HH with names such as ‘weak’ and ‘negative’ and all the other nonsense you trott out.

If you’re so principled about slagging off anyone who makes criticisms of the owners then why firstly are you going on a blog, where the guy that runs it is also one of those fans? Secondly why aren’t you calling him ‘negative’ and ‘’weak’ in that case?

If you’re so true to what you believe as you keep reminding everyone, then you’d include HH in that number. But then of course you’d risk getting kicked off…. so these principles you seem so keen to tell everyone else about go out the window, and what are you left with? A hypocrite.

This, along with the general unpleasantness is why many of us get so bored with hearing the same old mantra when anyone expresses any opinion different to yours.

It’s a boring, humourless and uninteresting approach to discussion. Which is why there’s no point in reading it…

One or two on here have become (or always were) mind numbingly boring, therefore I shan’t waste my time reading any more of their posts. I’d rather my time were spent reading the interesting ones…

Bale isn’t massive? Dear oh dear… You don’t rate Reguilon either?.. You must be trolling. Either a troll or in desperate need of medical attention. Dementia is no laughing matter.

I rate both Regulon and Bale, what are you even talking about? Paying 40% of Bale’s wages isn’t that massive in financial terms no.

This is why it’s so boring to read, it’s not even factually accurate. I’ll leave you to go down your local, make sure you’ve knocked every one out by 9.30pm though won’t ya… 😂

Great to start my day with a belly laugh!

The only similarities between Arry and Jose is that neither of them speak English perfectly.

I think Jose’s English is marginally better, and rumour has it that he can read and write as well!

I’m not drawing comparisons as managers. “Berry” different managers, but from Levy’s perspective these deals he’s done are not dissimilar. Compared to the AVB and Poch periods where most of the players were unproven prospects. .

Remember when we wondered how we would ever do without Eriksen pulling the strings.

I wonder who is regretting thinking thd grass was greener, where dj he go from here.

…..a cautionary tale for Dele, I think Jose has already made his point to [Twinkle toes & let the opposition have the ball on the edge of their own box].

It is good we have moved quickly on from Eriksen. For too long we lost a key player and we missed them. For example, Walker, and most notably Dembele who has taken nearly 24 months to replace and we still need a bit more time! Does replacing Eriksen so quickly show his true value? Great against sub standard teams, and he got plenty of goals and assists to get us into the top 4, but rarely did we see him in the big games and that possibly cost us trophies. All the blame for this cannot be put on Eriksen’s shoulders, but we needed him to turn up. Lots of big games to come and we need Lo Celso, Hojbjerg and Ndombele to show up. Then we’ll know that Eriksen’s ghost has been put to bed. We know Son, Kane and Bale will be there when needed. Who will join them?

Overrated and average apart from his assists… And he only got all those assists in his earlier seasons because we had Kane up top. His passing was never great.
