Tottenham among clubs ‘already taking steps’ to sign 28-year-old England international

By Saikat -

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

A report from the Sun claims that three clubs will battle it out for his services in the summer.

Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham United are all keen on signing the 28-year-old and they have already expressed an interest in signing the striker.

The report states: “If Brentford drop out of the Premier League, which is now looking a real possibility there will be a race to land Ivan Toney.

“That’s why some clubs are already taking steps to try and get in pole position to land the player.”

“It’s well-known that Chelsea and Spurs both need a number nine and Toney would fit the bill for both clubs. But West Ham are now interested too.”

Arsenal were reportedly keen on the player as well, but the Gunners have cooled their interest in him. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can win the race for his signature.

Chelsea and West Ham will not be able to provide the player with Champions League football next season and therefore Tottenham could have an edge in the transfer race if they manage to finish in the top four.

Tottenham need a reliable replacement for Harry Kane and signing a proven performer like Toney could prove to be a wise decision. The 28-year-old striker is well-settled in the Premier League and he could hit the ground running.

Tottenham have been overly dependent on players like Son Heung-min and Richalison for goals this season. Both players have done reasonably well but Tottenham still need to invest in a reliable striker.

Meanwhile, Toney will want to compete at a high level at this stage of his career and joining a club in the Champions League would be ideal for him. if Tottenham can finish in the top four this season, they will be an attractive destination for him.
