Alasdair Gold believes Tottenham Hotspur’s choice to reinforce their midfield could surprise many.
The North London are expected to have a busy summer transfer window where they will look to address the existing issues in their squad. While it has been an impressive first season for Ange Postecoglou at the club, there are quite a few issues that need to be taken care of.
According to Alasdair Gold on his podcast, Tottenham could make a surprise signing in the upcoming transfer window to resolve their problems in the middle of the park. They could depend on data to help them find the perfect fit for Postecoglou’s team.
Spurs do not have enough depth in defence as well as attack. While they will surely look to add depth to those areas, the focus will be on the midfield.
While talking on Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, he said: “Number six is a more difficult one really. In terms of I feel like a number six will be a real data signing, someone who can do a bit of everything. They’ve been heavily linked with Ederson and it’s a funny one with him because depending on who you speak to whether he’s a natural number six or not. I’ll say Ederson for that role for now, but I feel like maybe that number six role will be more of a data-based one that people are surprised by and it comes from left field, we will see.”
Spurs have started to plan for the summer and they have been linked with quite a few top players from across Europe as they look to reinforce their squad. According to Gold, their focus will be on reinforcing the midfield and they will look for a new number six. The idea is to bring in a top-quality defensive midfielder who can help out creatively as well.
It seems that Tottenham are looking to bring in a complete midfielder at the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see if they can bring in the right reinforcements. They will be hoping to compete for trophies next season and signing quality players should be one of their priorities.
