Spurs Struggling To Arrange Loan Deal

Spurs Struggling To Arrange Loan Deal

Peterborough have done a fair bit of loan business with Spurs. Luke McGee, Shaq Coulthirst, Nathan Oduwa, Kenneth McEvoy and Alex Pritchard have played for The Posh on their path to obscurity.

However it appears that the League One boss has had his fill of these ‘opportunities of a lifetime’.

Gladys told us a while back that Marcus Edwards was going to be loaned out.

The update is that Poch is still struggling to find a club to take the boy of his hands as Peterborough have bailed.

A ‘big swerve’ is pretty emphatic language.

Not reevaluating, but actively seeking to kick into touch.

The Marcus Edwards hysteria is yet another aberration from Tottenham fans absolutely desperate to back the next big thing despite any evidence to the contrary.

This time, all it took was an entirely uneventful 15 minute cameo appearance against the mighty Gillingham in the League Cup to get Spurs fans all unnecessary.

Everybody wants every Spurs youth player to succeed, but overhyping complete novices is a path pretty much guaranteed to lead to disappointment.

It’s also embarrassing.

I am aware of that, but the lyrics were made family friendly.

It’s like ‘addicted to love’ by Robert Palmer is thought to be originally ‘addicted to drugs’, and I’ve seen some alternative song lyrics which fit that premise.

If you get a chance I strongly recommend you have a look at Luke McGee at Peterborough. He’s a young goalkeeper who’s been winning rave reviews for his performances for the Posh. As a ‘keeper I suspect he’s an exception to the “no loan” rule that Pochettino likes to employ.

I think I read yesterday that his performances have dropped recently to the point that Peterborough are not going to renew his loan. just sayin’

Who’s got the dutchie at the moment?

  • Gloster1861 March 22, 2017 at 11:31 am

I suggest you lot read this:

Mauricio Pochettino has spelt out a key aspect of his managerial approach – that he would rather keep young players and work with them in training than loan them out to play at other clubs.

Preparing for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final at home to Millwall, the Tottenham Hotspur manager was reminded Harry Kane was sent to The Den as an 18-year-old in 2011-12. It came when Harry Redknapp was in charge at White Hart Lane and it proved a success. Kane credits the five-month spell at Millwall, during which he helped them avoid relegation from the Championship, as having turned him into a man.

The same sort of thing would not happen under Pochettino. He identifies the academy players he believes have the chance of making it and concentrates on drumming his ideas into them.

In the early years it does not matter so much to him whether they play for the first team. Pochettino prizes continuity and having a clear philosophy running through the club and he also sees it as advantageous that his chosen prospects are able to work on a daily basis with the first-team.

Since he took over in 2014, Pochettino has refused to let Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers go on loan and he will do the same with the 18-year-olds Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling. It has reached the stage where the temporary departure of a young player has a slightly ominous feel.
    Better experience
“In different periods something like loaning Harry to Millwall can work,” Pochettino said. “When there was a different profile of coaching staff, for example. In that moment it was good for young players to go. Nowadays it is not so important, although you need to respect every single opinion.

“I prefer to have our young players here and offer them the potential to be first team players. If you don’t get the opportunities to be involved with the first team it is best to move. But when you give those players the opportunity to train with the senior squad that is an even better experience.”

Marcus Edwards, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Luke McGee and Kyle Walker-Peters.

From what I’ve seen of them at youth level all of them (particularly Walker-Peters) look like they have more than a decent chance of making it as Premier League footballers. Whether they will or not, time will tell. But I think all four are worth keeping an eye on.

      • UnkleTaff March 22, 2017 at 11:45 am

They are the four that stand out to me. I watched the second game against CheIsea over the weekend and none of that lot impressed particularly … but then they were up against a very physically imposing Chelsea team (who, in addition to their recent FA Youth Cup successes, have also won the European Youth Cup for the last two years). It should be remembered, though, that this was still a cup semi-final and they’ve obviously done pretty well to get that far. It’s just that the Chelsea team they faced over the two legs wee a class apart.

Poch said recently that he prefers to keep promising youf at the club to train with the first team rather than loan them out. Those that get loaned out are clearly hopeless under the Poch era. So for Poch Edwards has gone from a Messi lookalike to dung within months.

  • Caspurs♿️ March 22, 2017 at 11:20 am

Dear Mr Levy is missing an ASBO owner.

    • Still Nil Nil March 22, 2017 at 11:24 am

      Rose came from Leeds.
The players you identify have come from a period of over 25 years.
      4 players.
It’s not a waste of time, as Harry rightly says, it makes money, Livermore, Townsend etc have provided money for the coffers, and yes they’ve made the England squad.
But I think that’s more of a lack of depth in the England sqaud then their ability to be better than anybody else.
But as a route for the youth to make the first team, it hasn’t provided as much as everybody thinks.
It seems that since ugo eggnog came in, it does seem to have produced less.

  • Still Nil Nil March 22, 2017 at 11:00 am

I’m not sure if I’m correct here, Unkle Kev amongst others as they know the Spurs youth squads better than me, would be able to put me right on this, but over the past few seasons, less and less of of the spurs youth are going out on loan to lower league teams.
Players of the Kane era did do it a lot (Townsend couldn’t help but do it) but the next generation don’t seem to be doing it so much.

Maybe the drubbing the Spurs youth had in the second leg of the youth cup semi at Chelsea shows the youth aren’t as fantabulous as we all think.

The racists have won the fa youth cup for the past 3 seasons and will probably win it this year.
Even with that kind of success, a very small minority get into their first team squad.

I think they’ve got more out on loan than they have in their entire first team squad.

Of those on loan, I would suggest none would return and make the grade in their first team.

John Terry was the last chump thru their youth to make it on a permanent basis.

So even with their youth success, and loan systems, it shows it doesn’t always work.

    We got lucky with Kane.
    But he’s a one off.
    So far.
    I’ve high hopes for winks.
The rest will make a living but not at the highest level.

The THFC Academy is a waste of time.

It’s made a few quid – which is the primary purpose of any development system – but noting close to the superior Chelsea version. It could only be a worse situation if West Ham were doing it better.

Hull are the only side to have truly benefited and they are nailed on for relegation.

With benefits like that who needs enemies?!

No wonder the Hull fans hate the owner. His major supplier is Levy.

My fringe is at the nape of my neck so there’s plenty of room for it on top.
