Tottenham are looking to bring in a reliable goalscorer before the summer transfer window closes and they have identified Jonathan David as a potential target.
According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham have already made an enquiry regarding the 23-year-old Canadian international and they have approached the French club Lille to find out about the conditions of a deal.
Apparently, the striker is valued at £55 million and Tottenham are yet to make any official move to sign him.
Galetti told GIVEMESPORT: “As we know for a suitable offer, the Canadian player could leave Lille and he’s keen to make a big leap to a top club and a big leap to the Premier League.
“Tottenham are well-informed about him. The price tag set by the French club is around £55 million.
“Spurs have already approached Lille asking about the conditions of the deal and exploring for sure the cost, but as of today no official move has been made.”
David has proven himself in the French league over the last couple of seasons and he could prove to be a quality long-term addition to the Tottenham attack.
Spurs have recently sanctioned the departure of Harry Kane and they will need to replace their former captain adequately.
The 30-year-old has joined Bayern Munich and replacing his goal-scoring output will not be an easy task.
David scored 26 goals across all competitions last season and he has the potential to develop into a top-class tracker.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are ready to pay a premium for him. The £55 million asking price might seem steep right now, but the Canadian international certainly has the potential to justify the investment in the long run.
If he manages to adapt to the Premier League and hit the ground running, he could end up proving to be a long-term asset for the club.
Spurs might need multiple attackers to replace the output of Harry Kane but David could certainly be a reliable goalscorer for them. A move to the Premier League club would be an exciting step up in the player’s career as well.
