Jose Mourinho has made it clear to Hugo Lloris that adding Joe Hart to the Tottenham squad will bring serious competition for a place in the team.
Lloris remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he helped France to win the World Cup in 2018.
He is one of the best in the Premier League even though he didn’t have the best of seasons the last time out.
He was out with injury for several months, but when he returned it was not even a debate that he got back the number one shirt from Paolo Gazzaniga.
However, it might become a different story in the coming season after Tottenham managed to secure the signature of Hart.
The former England number one has had a tough few years, but he remains a decent goalkeeper and Mourinho believes that he still has the capacity to give Lloris a run for a place in the club’s first team.
“Joe is one of the top keepers of the last decade in the country. He started very early, playing in a big club like City and playing for the national team,” Mourinho said via HITC.
“He has all the experience, I think a negative episode a few years ago has marked his career for the last two or three years, because it’s not easy to leave a champion club and then to go into clubs of another dimension.
“Now he has a chance to be back at a club like us
“Of, course Hugo is our captain – he is world champion captain. He’s a phenomenal goalkeeper and is very important in our group, but I think Joe will give him the hard competition that we need.”
Hart is a free replacement for Vorm, end of story, third choice.
As I posted last week I did some digging and at Torino there was a saying. “Shoot to his left and it is a goal 8/10 times”
Did Watford know this?
He looks good and shouts a lot but he makes Wormy look like Gordon Banks.
He is useless.
Gazza is a perfect understudy – not good enough to be #1 but good for the bench every week.
Joe Hart,a Legend in his own shower.
I will feel sorry for Gazza if he is forced out because we signed Hart.He would never replace Lloris but is a solid backup. If Mourinho is pushing Hart as no.2 then Gazza should see the writing on the wall and force a move.
Incidentally Lloris’s form after the restart was very good.
He was statistically the worst keeper in the league last season and Burnley plummeted down the table when they were forced to play him. In the end they concluded he is below the standard required of a 3rd choice keeper.
I dont think it’s understood how much trouble we are in if this guy gets any games this season. Everybody saw what happened when Vorm was brought in for cup games and Hart is significantly more vulnerable than him.
What a joke, Hart was brought in for two reasons only – english and cost nothing allowing us to sell Gazza on. He’s not going to push Hugo for anything, he’s a significantly worse keeper than Gazza and not even in the same universe as Hugo.
We’ve regressed massively in the backup keeper slot by adding a guy who can’t even hold down a place in such powerhouses as Burnley, Torino, or West Ham.
Hugo went straight back in Bc he’s the first team Captain, no debate.
That’s what we need competition for places, been too cosy for certain players.
