“Why would you want to leave all of that?”

By The Boy -

‘Anton Ferdinand, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at its launch of the 5-A-Side Bet on Burnley v West Ham’

I think Brendan Rodgers is so underrated, it’s unreal. They’ve sold some big players in the last few years. They lost Harry Maguire, and they don’t miss him at all, it’s crazy.

What he’s doing at Leicester is unbelievable. He’s improved every player in that squad. Wesley Fofana, Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are all players who he has taken to another level. He’s just a great coach and a manager that everybody loves.
Would I be worried if I was a Leicester fan about him going to Tottenham? I don’t see him going there.

Why is he going to go to Tottenham? It’s different if he’s being touted by a top-four team Why is he going to leave a top-four team to manage Tottenham?

Look at the squads: is Tottenham’s better than Leicester’s? I can’t see it. They’ve got a couple of better individuals in Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, but that’s about it.

Leicester have just moved into a fantastic new training complex, the club looks like it’s being run fantastically well… why would you want to leave all of that to go to Tottenham?

I don’t think his timing was too considerate, leaving them at a crucial stage of the season, but, otherwise, Rodgers left Celtic because he had gone about as far as he could go with them.. His European performances did fall a bit short but the Glasgow club were never going to be genuine players on the world stage. Had they been in our league, he’d have stayed probably.

There’s probably not much more he can achieve at Leicester now or at some not too distant point in the future, at any rate. Spurs with its history, fan base etc is thought of as a bigger club…..but we all (perhaps not some of our dozier fans) know all about the special problems involved in managing Spurs these days.

It’s funny how we perceive things, I genuinely feel that Rodgers is one of the most self assured (borderline arrogant) managers out there.

I think if he had people in his ear telling him not to take the job and that he’d never achieve anything at Spurs that would only serve to make him more interested.

Time will tell of course, but as I said before, I expect him to be approached.

I think it comes down to whether he thinks he can turn Leicester into a team that is consistently playing CL football (this will be the second time) or if he thinks he would be better off at Spurs (where Levy will no doubt say CL is an expectation as well as challenging for the top prizes).

When he has won a fraction of what Mourinho has a manager then he might think he is better than any who came before him if he came to Spurs.

I doubt Rodgers would think that way,he’s far too sensible. It would be good if he came to us,but why would he leave Leicester with his project there running smoothly with the team achieving onfield success and the owners backing him with properly scouted recruitments.

The very opposite of which he would have to endure at Spurs.

I think Rodgers clearly would want the job, but he is in such a strong position at Leicester who are flying with the prospect of winning the FA Cup and CL qualification.
Whatever the season brings there, it is still a huge decision to leave a forwardly thinking club to go to one that is in such disarray, and only he knows how he feels about the whole situation, but I expect he will want guarantees such as a large transfer budget and no interference.

I was speaking to a Celtic fan who is convinced Rodgers will be at Spurs.

Apparently he constantly batted away the Leicester vacancy when he was in charge at Celtic. I also think Rodgers will (wrongly in my opinion) see Tottenham as a bigger club because of the marketability, stadium etc.

I know some on here don’t think we can attract big names because of how poorly the club is run, but you need to take into account something which all top players and managers have…..which is ego. I think he will believe he is above everyone that was at Spurs before him and he can turn the tide as it were.

I expect we will at least make a formal approach for him.

Failing that Chris Coleman is available.

Leicester do show how important the choice of manager is. Under Puel they looked very average and unexciting but Rodgers has turned them into a force again with largely the same players.
Puel has since take Saint Etienne to a cup final, so it’s not that he’s a terrible coach but some appointments work and some don’t.
To rebuild the confidence of the Spurs squad its going to need the right character. Certainly Rodgers fits the bill.

I’m in two minds now:

  1. Wave the white flag and tell everyone to leave us alone, taking potshots at us is like knocking over the collection box of the kid in callipers with his dog outside the sweet shop.
  2. Chest out, deep breath and say “F**k ’em all I love this club, bring it on you bunch of w*nkstains”

If only Levy showed some of the latter and less of the former

Anton’s nickname at West Ham was ‘Three-o’. Whatever wild and wacky haircut, clobber or car Rio got, Anton would roll up in the same three weeks later.
