Treble winning manager backed to take Spurs job following Nagelsmann setback

Brendan Rodgers has once again been backed to take the Spurs job.

Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann was deemed favourite for the job for a long time.

But despite several talks, it was recently reported that he is no longer in the running for the vacant position, apparently failing to come to an agreement with Daniel Levy.

It was previously reported that he had concerns over Tottenham’s transfer strategy as well as wanted to know who the sporting director would be.

With Nagelsmann now out of running, the former Liverpool manager has once again been linked with the job.

And Don Hutchison has backed him to become the next manager.

He feels Brendan Rodgers has enough credentials in his bank to take the job at Spurs having done an impressive job with Leicester City where he guided them to a FA Cup win and a treble with Celtic.

He also came ridiculousy close to winning the Premier League with Liverpool only to lose it out to Manchester City by one point.

Despite the poor season he had with Leicester which saw him get sacked, Hutchinson backs him for the Spurs job.

He told ESPN:

“The name who I think who can do a good job, in the short-term, and I mean over the next two or three years is probably Brendan Rodgers.”

“I see his style of football fitting in quite well. He talks well and he knows the game inside out. He’s good and reliable.

“Okay, he’s had a bad season at Leicester. But I think there is context there, in terms of Leicester selling their best players over the last few years and a million injuries.

“Plus, the job that he did on a whole wasn’t a bad one. FA Cup and finished fifth twice by pushing for the Champions League. So, I think out of all of those names, it’s Brendan.”

Interestingly, Spurs have been interested in Rodgers for a long time.

They attempted to hire him back in 2013, but he chose to take the Liverpool job instead.

They missed out on him again when he decided to stay at Leicester after they sacked Pochettino.

Rodgers has also been backed by former Tottenham players Robbie Keane and Jamie O’Hara for the job.
