Tottenham have suffered a major blow before the start of the 2024/25 season as Rodrigo Bentancur picked up an injury on international duty.
Ange Postecoglou had an impressive start to life at Tottenham. While he might not have succeeded in securing a Champions League spot, there have been a lot of positive changes at the club post his arrival. The majority of the things did go according to plan for him last season and he is expected to help them take the next step in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Unfortunately, they have already suffered a major blow as Rodrigo Bentancur has picked up a serious injury during Uruguay’s semi-final clash against Colombia.
While talking about the 27-year-old’s injury, El Observador wrote: “After 25 minutes he started running with difficulty. After 32 minutes he asked for the change, because it was noticeable that he couldn’t take it anymore. He left crying from the court after 33 minutes and his injury disorganised the team that minutes later suffered 1-0.”

Tottenham struggled to deal with injuries last season and they will not want to be in a similar situation next season. James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie all spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines. It seems they might be without a key player in Bentancur for a while.
Marcelo Bielsa used him as a substitute in all four of their games before the semi-final but he ended up handing the Tottenham star a start in the all-important fixture. While he had an impressive start to the game, Bentancur picked up an injury in the first half itself.
In an attempt to steal the ball from Jhon Arias, the 27-year-old and his teammate Mathias Olivera slid in with a strong challenge and ended up colliding. While Bentancur did try to run it off, he was taken off in the 33rd minute of the game and was in tears as he made his way out.
The former Juventus midfielder has spent a significant amount of time on the sidelines because of injuries in the past and Postecoglou will hope it is not as serious as it looked. Having been out of action for eight months in 2023 because of a knee injury, the Uruguay international will hope he can return as soon as possible.
