Video Evidence: A Prime Example Of Tottenham’s Supreme Defending Tactics

By The Boy -

Still there remain some in the fanbase who appear to be in the wrong movie theater, as I suggested in this week’s Keep It Tottenham Podcast; those who aren’t excited by the intelligence of Spurs’ play under Mourinho. Here we have Mahrez, a notoriously tricky customer, being closed down by two of our lot, and who is bringing the ball out? Steven Bergwijn – a midfielder, ably assisted by Harry Kane – our striker.

Harry Kane is looking to me, by the way, like a man in a far better place mentally, working with José. Gone is the seemingly endless series of fruitless runs into the attacking third, and instead we now have this rather smart, forward thinking player with a licence to roam.

What would the naysayers have preferred? Mahrez to cross the ball, so that we might hoof it to Harry, whose been waiting on the halfway line, with his hands on his hips? This Spurs side is exciting to watch, even when behind the ball. Maybe the screen next door is showing Police Academy 5?

There is definitely beauty in defending as a team, especially shutting out a side like City, so no complaints there. We couldn’t go toe to toe with City, not like Liverpool can, so we have to know our limitations and Jose got his tactics spot on v City. Not sure he gets it entirely right v the weaker teams but we have scraped through. We have good attacking players who can pop the ball about well, therefore we should be dominating the weaker teams more. 3-0 v West Ham was testament to that, but we were found wanting v Brighton, Burnley and WBA. This I do not understand. I’ll take the ugly wins but I would prefer these games to be more comfortable (who wouldn’t?). Sanchez, Winks, Aurier and Sissoko all made poor decisions in the final 10 minutes and ultimately that cost us the full West Ham points. You can’t make that many mistakes and not expect to be punished. Jose got it right on Saturday and he needs applauding for that. I can see us setting up exactly in the same way v Chelsea.

There a piece to be written about the financial results, which were released today. Spoiler alert, it’s much better than it looks. In fact, some of the figures are astonishing.

This Spurs side is exciting to watch

I concur! I love watching us spring out of the traps on another lightning fast break. I also like to see a side that doesn’t look like conceding – better for the heart!

What Mou has managed to do with both Kane and Dier is little short of incredible, both are way better players because of him. Unfortunately Dele has proved more resistant to his teachings, or just plain thick. Our gaffer knows what it takes to win and win dirty if we have too. That’s something Spurs have lacked for such a long time. I love the way he foxed everybody with the Son injury, he’s a master of gamesmanship alright!
