Vertonghen posts message to fans after burglary

By Ron Carne -

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has thanked his followers for their support after a burglary at his home.

As noted by BBC Sport, the 32-year-old’s family was said to have been held at knifepoint during the ordeal, with four men breaking into his house while he was in Germany for the Champions League game against RB Leipzig last week.

The report adds that fortunately no one was injured during the incident, but the suspects had already left the house before police arrived.

In turn, the hunt continues to find those guilty of putting Vertonghen’s family through such a terrifying ordeal, while the Belgian international has now shown his appreciation for the kind words he has received from his supporters.

As per his Instagram stories, Vertonghen wrote: “Thanks everyone for all the kind messages! Family is everything! Stay safe!”

The Spurs star will have spent the last week at home with his family after the Premier League season was suspended until next month due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While it remains to be seen when the campaign resumes, Vertonghen will undoubtedly hope that the suspects are caught to avoid a repeat scenario either involving him and his family or others moving forward.
