Jan Vertonghen reacts to Tottenham managerial update on social media

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur recently sacked Cristian Stellini and appointed Ryan Mason as the caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Stellini had taken over from Antonio Conte after the Italian was dismissed earlier this season following his public outburst criticising the players. Stellini’s appointment hardly made a difference as the results continued to worsen for Tottenham.

The humiliating 6-1 defeat against Newcastle resulted in the departure of Stellini and Mason will be in charge of the first team until the end of the season.

The former Tottenham midfielder has taken over for the second time, having previously served as a caretaker following Jose Mourinho’s departure.

Ryan Mason recently took to social media to share his thoughts on the appointment and revealed that it is a privilege for him to manage the club and he will look to do his best.

“It’s a privilege to manage this great football club,” he wrote. “I’m ready for the challenge and know what it means to represent the club.

I’ve never taken for granted the connection I have with our incredible fans and will work relentlessly with the players and staff to ensure that as a collective we fight for the badge at all times.

“Time to prepare and focus all of our energy into Thursday’s game. COYS”.

Former Tottenham players Jan Vertonghen and Andros Townsend congratulated their former teammate on the appointment and wished him luck. Mason is a popular figure at the club and he is adored by the fans as well.

It remains to be seen whether he can get Tottenham firing once again and lift the spirits around the club.

Spurs are still very much in with the chance of securing Champions League qualification but they cannot afford to keep dropping points.

Missing out on a top-four finish would be a devastating blow for Tottenham and it will be interesting to see whether Mason can turn things around at the North London club.
