Versatile ace confirms Spurs wanted to sign him, opens door to PL move

By Saikat -

Brazilian full-back Vanderson was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but he ended up joining the French outfit Monaco in January 2022.

The 21-year-old defender has been quite impressive for Monaco so far and it will be interesting to see if Spurs decide to reignite their interest in the South American in the coming seasons.

Speaking to Onze Mondial, the defender has now confirmed that Spurs were keen on signing him. He has also admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League in the future.

He said: “Yes, it’s true. There were interests from English, Italian and Russian clubs (note: Tottenham, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow). But when Monaco arrived, I knew a lot of Brazilians had succeeded here. And with an ambitious project, it was the right club to achieve my career goals.”

However, the right-back is currently focused on playing Champions League football with Monaco and establishing himself as an important player for the side.

Regarding a future Premier League move, he added: “Yes, it is an objective for all those who want to evolve at the highest level. It’s a big league like Ligue 1. But first, I want to play here and compete in the Champions League.”

Monaco have a history of producing talented players and selling them at a premium. They will be hoping to do the same with Vanderson in the near future.

The South American can operate as a full-back as well as a winger and his versatility will be a bonus for any club decides to join.

Spurs could definitely use an upgrade on the likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal. Furthermore, Djed Spence is quite young and he might not be ready for regular Premier League football just yet.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to make a move for Vanderson at the end of the season.
