Versatile 26-year-old defender has made a transfer decision amid Tottenham links

Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with the 26-year-old recently but it seems that the player has rejected the opportunity to move away from Borussia Monchengladbach.

According to Florian Plettenberg, the player has decided to stay at the German club. His decision will certainly come as a major boost for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will have to find a quality defender this summer.

Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier have been linked with moves away from the club and they will need to replace these players adequately.

Spurs conceded 63 goals in the league last season and the defensive unit is in need of reinforcements. Spurs must look to add more quality to the side if they want to get back into the Champions League and compete for major trophies.

Itakura has proven his quality in the Bundesliga and he would have been a quality acquisition for Tottenham.

The Japanese international could have partnered with Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence. He is versatile enough to play as a defensive midfielder as well.

Spurs have been linked with other defenders in recent weeks. Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg are thought to be on their shortlist as well.

It will be interesting to see which of these defenders Spurs end up signing eventually.
