UEFA Chief Says Football Could Be Back As Soon As June

By The Boy -

UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin believes that football needs to get back in business as soon as possible or the season could “be lost” reports Charlie Wyett for The Sun. The good news is, this is precisely how the Premier League stakeholders feel too, and the clubs and associations are trying to hatch a plan that will allow the championships to be concluded.

Some might rail against this, making the case that in the time of pandemic crisis, sport pales into insignificance. But the seriousness of the situation and the thrill of football surely aren’t mutually exclusive, or people wouldn’t be allowed TV sets in hospitals, eh?

Random joke de jour

One idea – which at any other time would sound a teensy bit ludicrous – is for all the Premier League sides to isolate (even from their own families) and train, and play as one unit to keep them protected.

Then, the games would be played behind closed doors which would produce a tournament of sorts that would take maybe some 6 weeks to complete.

The feel-good factor that could be generated from such an initiative is not to be underestimated. Mental-health and general well being of sports fans would receive a colossal boost, not to mention all the tangible benefits to associated industries.

Keeping the economy going is not to be frowned at. What was that old adage, “Pay me, so I can pay them, so they can pay him, so he can pay you” (or something of that ilk).

I don’t recall much feel good factor watching football this season. The only positive outcome from a spurs perspective would be for the season to be voided and a fresh one started in August, with CL places being allocated as of the end of the 18/19 season. Also the most logical outcome unless you want football seasons to start in November from now on.
