Transfer insider urges Spurs to make ‘no-brainer’ signing in January – he has 28 goals & 26 assists under Ange

Transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed Tottenham should try and sign Jota on loan from Al-Hilal in January.

Jota’s stint in Saudi Arabia has turned challenging due to the club signing numerous foreign players, exceeding the Saudi Pro League quota. As a result, Jota has been left out.

Interestingly, Jota was linked with a move to Tottenham in the latter part of the summer transfer window.

According to a report in Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spurs are preparing to make an offer to take Jota on loan in the upcoming transfer window for the remainder of the campaign.

And Jones believes a loan deal in January will be a ‘no brainer’ for the Australian. He told GiveMeSport:

“If it is possible on a loan deal, I think it’s got more potential for Spurs because it really does feel like a no-brainer for Postecoglou, who has worked with him before and wants more players of that type around his frontline.

“I would put Tottenham more into that bracket of what Arsenal were last season, when they were title pretenders rather than contenders. There’s nothing wrong with that. You can be pretenders at a time when nobody expected you to even be in the conversation, that’s fine. It’s the season after that actually matters.

“I think that Tottenham are about a year behind Arsenal here in terms of their growth. They can stay in that top four battle without going and splashing on a striker and not being sure that it’s exactly the right player that they need for right now.

“Bringing in Jota on loan and then weighing up the purchases longer-term seems like something which probably makes more sense to me.”

Jota has previously worked closely with Postecoglou during their time in Scotland scoring 28 goals and assisted 26 in 83 appearances under him.

With Son expected to miss up to 6 weeks of action due to the AFC Asian Cup January, Jota could turn out to be a brilliant signing for Spurs, specially given his previous connection with the Tottenham manager.
