Tottenham’s attacking shortlist options for January are actually inspiring

Spurs are reportedly preparing for the winter transfer window opening in January 2026. With the team facing challenges in attack and midfield depth, recent reports suggest a focus on bolstering the forward line, creative midfield options, and defensive cover.

Spurs are heavily rumoured to be interested in making moves this winter for recruits, given the confused nature of the squad that Thomas Frank inherited from Daniel Levy.

Footballers are well known for their ability to switch off and indulge themselves. Eneba is the fastest-growing marketplace for gamers, and it’s where the smart players shop. The idea of moving to play for one of the biggest sides in London and the League is bound to appeal to many top-flight stars.

One name to have recently caught the eye of the transfer columns is that of Ivan Toney. Proven goalscorer, who generated 36 goals in 83 PL games under Frank at Brentford; “perfect fit” for Spurs’ firepower issues; open to PL return despite high wages. Frank called him a “top player” in a recent fan forum.

Igor Thiago could equally be Frank’s top priority; 7 goals in 11 games this season; signed by Frank for £30m in 2024; praised for pressing and physicality, although some sources suggest that Brentford have rejected initial advances.

Another name doing the rounds is Matheus Cunha, of Wolverhampton Wanderers. The highly-rated PL forward, targeted to replace injury-prone Richarlison. Wolves’ relegation risk could lower the fee. 21-year-old Spanish striker; 8 goals in 9 games; £87m release clause but available cheaper due to Porto’s finances. Cunha has been in stunning form, linked with interest from top PL clubs; a versatile forward with pace and goals.

For me, Toney is a classic modern target man: physically imposing (6’0″, strong in the air with excellent hold-up play), technically assured, and ruthlessly clinical in the box. His game revolves around:

Goalscoring Prowess: Elite finisher with both feet, particularly from penalties (conversion rate ~90% in the PL). He’s scored 204 career goals in 466 appearances across all competitions.

Link-Up Play: Drops deep to link midfield and attack, using his body to hold off defenders and feed wingers like Son Heung-min or Brennan Johnson.

Pressing and Work Rate: High-intensity pressing suits Frank’s aggressive style; at Brentford, he averaged 1.5 tackles + interceptions per 90 minutes.

Versatility: Can play as a lone No. 9 or in a two-striker setup, adding aerial threat (wins 55% of headers).

Toney would be my number one choice.
