Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the equator defender Piero Hincapie in recent months.
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are keen on signing the 21-year-old as well and the two Premier League clubs will have to pay more than £50 million to sign the Bundesliga defender this summer.
The highly talented center-back has recently signed a 12-month contract extension with the German club and Bayer Leverkusen will demand a fee of more than £50 million for him at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old can play as a left-sided center back as well as the left back. His versatility will be an added bonus if Tottenham manage to secure his services.
The South American could be the ideal partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence for the foreseeable future. Although he might not be worth £50 million just yet, the defender has the talent and the ability to justify the investment in the long run.
Hincapie has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the summer of 2027 and therefore the Germans are under no pressure to cash in on him. They will only sell the defender on their terms and Tottenham will have to pay a premium for him.
Antonio Conte addressed a major weakness in his defense with the signing of Pedro Porro and signing a quality center back would sort out his defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition from their Premier League rivals and secure the 21-year-old’s signature in the coming months.
