Tottenham weighing up January move for 24-year-old Manchester United target

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing the Uruguayan defender Sebastian Caceres.

A report from Football Insider claims that a number of clubs are monitoring the 24-year-old defender’s situation and Tottenham are keeping tabs on his progress ahead of a potential swoop in January.

The North London outfit signed Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips during the summer transfer window. While Philips is a long-term prospect, van de Ven has already established himself as a key player for the club.

It seems that Tottenham are now looking to add more quality and depth to their defensive unit. Signing another central defender would allow Ange Postecoglou to rotate players like Romero and van de Ven.

Caceres will certainly be a quality long-term acquisition. He has impressed with the Uruguay national team and he is certainly capable of succeeding in the Premier League as well.

It will be interesting to see if Club America are prepared to sanction his departure in January.

Apparently Manchester United, Newcastle United and West Ham United are all interested in the defender.

Manchester United need to sign a quality alternative before they sell Harry Maguire and the 24-year-old could be a useful acquisition.

Similarly, Newcastle need to start planning for the future. Fabian Schar and Dan Burn are in their 30s and they need to sign a younger central defender who could partner Sven Botman at the heart of their defence for the foreseeable future.
