Tottenham Hotspur are keen on improving their defensive unit during the summer transfer window, and they will look to bring in a quality central defender.
According to former Tottenham scout Mick Brown, they will look to bring in a top-class central defender to partner Micky van de Ven. Cristian Romero has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to sell the Argentine International.
“Tottenham want to sign a top-class centre-back when the window opens,” he told Football Insider.
“They don’t need a ‘might-be’ player, they need a solid, definitive centre-half.
“If they can bring a player like that in, it will allow them to pair him with Van de Ven and create a really strong partnership at the back.
“I’ve heard Romero has been mentioned in connection with a move to Real Madrid as well, so that’s going to add to their need to sign a new option.”
Recently, we recovered reports that Tottenham would be willing to cash in on him if he does not sign a renewal with the club soon. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Tottenham need defensive additions
Tottenham have been quite vulnerable defensively, and they need to bring in a quality central defender who will help them tighten up at the back. It is no surprise that they are looking to bring in a marquee defensive signing in the summer.
It will be interesting to see if they can bring in the right additions and bounce back strongly next season. It has been a disappointing campaign for them and they are likely to miss out on Champions League qualification.
