Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Lazio defender Mario Gila during the summer transfer window, as per La Lazio Siamo Noi.

The 24-year-old has been excellent for the Italian outfit last season, and his performances have attracted the attention of Chelsea as well. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham come forward with an official offer to sign him.

Tottenham need defenders

It is no secret that they need a quality central defender. They were quite poor defensively last year, and they are likely to lose Cristian Romero this summer. They conceded 65 goals in 38 league matches last season. They will need to tighten up at the back if they are serious about doing well next year.

Signing multiple defenders could be a priority for them this summer. The 24-year-old has proven himself in Italy, and he could be a quality acquisition for Tottenham.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be an exciting one for the player. It will be a major step up for him. The former Real Madrid player certainly has the quality to thrive in England, and he could be a key player for Tottenham.

They have secured Champions League qualification for the next season, and they will be an attractive destination for quality players. Tottenham need to plug the weaknesses in their defence if they want to bounce back strongly. They will look to do well in the league next year and fight for trophies as well.

Gila will certainly fancy a new challenge at this stage of his career, and moving to the Premier League could be hard for him to turn down. It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks. The defender left Real Madrid in 2022, and he will certainly want to play for a big club again. He has been linked with a return to his former club.

Chelsea have the resources to get the deal across the line as well, and they could use an upgrade on players like Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi.
